AI didn’t create the assessment crisis. It exposed it.

AI is forcing a conversation that education has quietly avoided for years.

What educators actually want to see is:

how students interpret information

how they connect ideas

how they explain their thinking

Learning as a process.

We may be entering an AI arms race in education.

Students use AI to generate assignments. Then, teachers use AI to grade them, and Administrators buy AI-detection tools.

At some point, you have to ask: What are we actually measuring?

Several educators recently told me something interesting. They aren't necessarily against AI. What they worry about is the authenticity of the assessment. If students can outsource the core work of demonstrating understanding… then the assignment itself may be broken.

The solution may not be better detection. It may be better assessment design.

We are excited to share a project Sagenverse recently collaborated on with the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center.

The Florida Keys Sanctuary Virtual Tour brings the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary to audiences who may not have the opportunity to visit in person. The experience allows users to explore exhibits, environments, and educational content in an interactive, self guided format.

This project is now being promoted by NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, which is a meaningful milestone for everyone involved.

Projects like this demonstrate how cultural, scientific, and educational institutions can extend the reach of their physical spaces through digital experiences. Virtual tours can support classrooms, remote learners, and public outreach while complementing in person visits and on site programming.
