We're excited to have most of our team in person this week to collaborate on AI experiments and grow in our craft together!

We don't measure the Craftsmanship Academy by how much code an apprentice ships in ten weeks.

We measure it by whether they're still willing to say I don't know this yet, and go find out anyway. That's the real training, not the syntax. It's the habit of trusting the process before you've mastered it, and giving people real agency long before they feel ready for it.

Five apprentices just came through this year's cohort. Hear what stayed with them.

Halfway through our Craftsmanship Academy cohort, the code isn't the hardest part. Our Academites just moved into production-ready web frameworks, and here's what they're learning along the way:

-Prioritize. The volume of work is the real challenge, not the difficulty.
-Collaborate. Finding a solution someone else already built still counts as progress.
-Navigate. Even a small project can hide inside a big, unfamiliar folder structure.
-Take the next step. When stuck, stop picturing the whole product and just move forward.
-Ask. Questions aren't just allowed here; they're expected.

Next up: production performance, troubleshooting, and agentic AI, the final stretch before this cohort joins us on real partner work.

Skill isn't built in a single sitting. It's built one challenge at a time.

Check in with our Craftsmanship Academy cohort to see what they’ve been learning as they sharpen their skills and grow their craft.

Meet this year's Craftsmanship Academy cohort.

They're just getting started, and the real learning happens in the work itself. Stay tuned over the next few weeks as they dig into real-world projects and hands-on learning.

Custom software isn't a cost to justify. It's a resource to deploy — like hiring the right person for the right job. The real question isn't "can we afford it?" It's "are we putting our resources to work on something that matters?" Check out our blog post where we talked to Jordan Raynor about the stewardship mindset behind smart software decisions. https://rolemodelsoftware.com/blog/redeeming-your-time-a-conversation-with-jordan-raynor-on-stewardship-and-custom-software?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_id=2446

The Academy is a starting point, not a finish line. Graduates from our 2024 and 2025 cohorts share where their craftsmanship journey has taken them since completing the program.

The next cohort begins this summer. Check back to follow their journey.

The problem isn't the tool. It's the input.

Most people using AI get generic output and blame the model. But the pattern is predictable: vague prompt, vague response.

At RoleModel Software, we have been learning what makes the difference, and we captured that thinking into a framework we call CRAFT. Context, Role, Ask, Fit, Tune.

Not a trick for getting better AI results. A discipline for thinking more precisely before you hand anything off. No different from briefing a colleague, writing a clear ask, or setting up a meeting with purpose.

The people getting the most from AI aren't using better tools. They're communicating better.
