Hallo from Den Haag in The Netherlands! Here we are at the Kuntsmuseum, which has a VERY large collection De Stijl artifacts. We learned so much about the painters, designers, architects, writers and furniture designers who believed they were bettering the world by simplifying it and blurring the lines between art and life. What a treat! 🇳🇱

Spent a great morning last week with the Arlington Women's Civic Alliance. They brought gifts to wrap for one family in need this holiday season and had an awesome creative experience with Howard and me in our at-home workshop. AWCA is an organization devoted to friendship and philanthropy in Arlington and adjacent communities. We learned how to practice environmental stewardship while gift wrapping with items we would normally throw away. Most store-bought gift wrap products cannot be recycled because of the special coatings and metallics--the majority end up in the landfills. Great work ladies not only on this endeavor but on all the time, effort and money you spend lifting up the many organizations and people who need it in our area. AWCA is making a huge difference! https://www.awcava.org/

Well done last Sunday: students of Congregation Tifereth Israel religious school in Glen Cove, NY! Our design thinking lesson was on using items that we normally throw in the trash to design packaging for their holiday gifts. We teach why packages exist—to organize, sanitize, glamorize—and we point out that packages create some of the worst pollution on the planet. Then we challenged the kids to see the trash through a new lens, recycling it to design gift wrapping and being good environmental stewards in the process. If we can change habits and get kids to ask their families to get through the holiday season without buying wrapping paper products, that is our goal! Did you know we spend $7 billion a year on wrapping paper products? And we create 4 million tons of extra waste every holiday season? We can change that!

Howard and I recently ordered new cards and are very happy with the articulation of how we’ve been reinventing ourselves. The titles/descriptions are about things we’ve been doing for a long time but were not willing to own so wholly until now. Liberating, really…moves one forward with conviction, in the directions we were going anyway.

Most who know us well, know that we are in semi-retired as of 18 months ago, and pursing our passion projects. I am still working on one large design project for another year, but doing more speaking/guest lectures and continuing to create exciting design thinking experiences for adults and children, in addition to producing the leaf texture compositions I've shared. Howard can speak for himself when he's ready, but he's been up to some really cool stuff.

Really enjoyed talking to the 3rd year design students at RIT College of Art and Design a couple of weeks ago. The title of our guest lecture was "Things we learned in college we still use everyday." RIT also shot a video interview with Howard and me afterwards about how we've decided to pay it forward and our positive experiences being part of the RIT parent and donor community. I was a little nervous at first but the students welcomed us with their enthusiasm for discussion, and we eventually had to cut the questions short because they kept on comin'. Thank you Professor Keli DiRisio for inviting us!

I love supporting talented passionate creatives who are new on the scene. At Clarenden Day two weeks ago, I came across a young artist who sews incredible bags and pouches. I saw a great shape for my traveling makeup bag but not in the pattern or fabric I preferred. offered to make a custom bag for me and had it ready the very next week. When I brought Howard with me to pick it up, he ordered a custom made bag for his travel watercolors. Join Howard and me and check out Anna’s beautiful work and support local young artists on their journeys!

LOTS of inspo in Soho: at the CIMA Center for Italian Modern Art, where we saw a dynamic show of vintage Italian posters with a private tour of them by the fabulous Marcella, a Phd student at NYU who is studying Italian communications. Worth seeing the show and getting the special tour! I learned a lot, added to my knowledge and love of poster arts from the 20’s-50’s.

I love it when a graphic can help people quickly understand their choices, is educational and entertaining...and is beautiful too. Blackboard at the delightful new restaurant SEAMORE'S in Clarenden. The red spoons indicate which fish are fresh on the menu today and words & drawings teach us all something about fish varieties. Seamore's features local flavors and supports local fisheries--fresh seafood you can actually feel good about. And the bartender is friendly too!

Another one of the videos we produced in collaboration with filmmaker Scott Cooper for our terrific client and newly rebranded WeAchieve. Working with Rodney, the star of our video, his mom Carolyn, and Gail Singletary at WeAchieve was very moving. This video features one of WeAchieve's key messages: they are focused on lifelong supports for people with developmental disabilities. Check out the new website, logo and brand attributes at https://weachieveinc.org/
