A lot of downtown work happens behind the scenes.

At IDA Place Matters 2025, we attended the "Why It Matters: Highlighting UPMOs' Everyday Value" session, which demonstrated how small stories, thoughtful content, and consistent communication help people understand and connect with the work they do every day.

It’s about making sure the work people don’t always see still gets recognized.

Collaborative Approaches to Addressing Urban Encampments and Homelessness.

This session really stayed with us.

We heard how some cities are closing encampments by first making sure everyone has a place to go. Then they bring those spaces back to life with things like parks, art, or community events.

It’s not easy work, but it’s honest, caring, and long-term.

The message was clear. Start small. Build trust. Keep showing up.

We spent three days in Cleveland for Place Matters 2025, and it honestly filled our hearts in the best way
We learned a lot. We met some truly amazing people who genuinely care about their communities. We had conversations that stayed with us.

And in between it all, we got to explore the city, and wow, Cleveland is beautiful.

It’s already been two days since we left, but we couldn’t not share this. Here's a little photo dump from our time there; more to come soon!

We got in a day early and took some time to explore the city and honestly Cleveland blew us away
