If AI is defending your network from AI, what’s actually making the decisions? That became one of the Gradient Descent team’s favorite questions at Black Hat USA.

A lot of the answers sounded familiar: more LLMs, more agents, more tokens. But one answer stood out because the technology behind the AI was fast, explainable and auditable.

Sometimes the most interesting AI architecture is the part that isn’t AI.

There may not be a "right" way to use AI. One person builds layers of specialized tools. Another obsesses over architecture and testing. Someone else learns by jumping in, breaking things and figuring out why.

The point isn't to replicate somebody else's setup. It's to build a way of working with AI that makes sense for how you think and how you work.

Getting bad results from AI? Before blaming the model, look at what you're giving it.

Intent matters. Context matters. Direction matters. The more AI understands what you're trying to accomplish and what it has to work with, the better chance it has of giving you something useful.
