Students, parents and mentors of RoboLords, mechaturtles, Electric Eagles & Stingerz

I want to take a moment to talk honestly about where we started the season and how far you’ve come.

Last summer was a real roller coaster. A few experienced members left the team unexpectedly to pursue building a Worlds robot and forming a Worlds-focused team. I’ll be honest—that caught me completely off guard, and it had a huge impact on RoboLords. While I was wishing them success, I realized that a lot of experience we were counting on was gone.

But I was incredibly fortunate. I had a few amazing students from mechaturtles and Electric Eagles who were willing to step up and join RoboLords. Almost all of you were new, and we began the summer by taking small, careful steps forward together.

You gave me the confidence to start Stingerz with students who had no prior experience in competitive robotics.

When the season officially started, the reality was that all the teams were more or less a rookie team. My hope at that point was simple: each team builds a robot that could play some good matches and keep learning along the way.

What happened next exceeded anything I expected.

Many of you went far beyond what was asked. You didn’t just fill gaps—you became strong pillars of the team. You learned quickly, supported each other, took ownership, and showed resilience when things were hard. You proved that a team isn’t defined by how it starts, but by how its members rise when things don’t go as planned.

* Electric Eagles had a great stride in this season’s FTC Qualification tournaments.
* RoboLords and Stingerz advanced to the FIRST Chesapeake State Championships
* RoboLords got placed 3rd in the Championship Blue Crab Division advancing to the International Premier Event this Summer.

I’m incredibly proud of the effort, commitment, and heart you brought to RoboLords, Stingerz and Electric Eagles. What you built together this season truly matters—and it sets a powerful foundation for everything that comes next.

Be willing to be a beginner and success will follow you!

With 5 new students, and a humble beginning, this team did it again. RoboLords advanced to the FIRST Chesapeake State Championship from the FTC qualifier tournament at DC International School. A big thank you to the alliance partner Luminus who supported tenaciously in the elimination rounds - all the way to the finals.

Getting ready for another year to make a difference in the lives of aspiring young engineers at Eagle Ridge Middle School! Sign up for the after school robotics club organized and run by RoboLords opens today August 22nd. We’re looking for passionate students to join our robotics club. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn, and enthusiasm to work in a team.

At the end of the year, students graduate from this club to start their own community teams. The two teams that started last year:
- System Overload
- Turbo Terminators

Sometimes you have to embrace the future to DECODE the past. Here’s our team touring the Saxton Laboratory, a state-of-the-art facility that is shaping the future of transportation. A future where smart traffic signals, connected roads, and mobile network sensors enable vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure connectivity for cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC), speed harmonization, cooperative lane change & merge and other advanced technologies that transforms the automotive industry. The Saxton Lab is helping the US government prepare for a future where autonomous travel on our roadways are safe, efficient and equitable.

We greatly appreciate the staff and operations team of and for giving our students this opportunity to tour the facility.

Computer aided design (CAD) is widely used in various industries and is a highly sought after skill in robotics and engineering. It helps you visualize 2D / 3D objects, allowing rapid prototyping and design iterations. Join us for a free session on CAD at Rust Library, Leesburg on June 14th Saturday 1pm to 3pm. Best for students 6th grade and above.
