I adorned a plain bag with vibrant artwork and complemented the back with Chinese calligraphy for depth and significance. The prominent character symbolizes “nothingness,” reflecting a profound Buddhist philosophy on life’s essence. The accompanying poem echoes this contemplative theme.

"Six Records of a Floating Life" is an intriguing book about the love story between Qing dynasty Chinese writer Shenfu and his wife, Yunniang. Unlike the traditional standard of beauty, Yunniang is depicted as an intelligent and artistic woman.

Patchwork is a popular technique in textile arts, known for its ability to create intricate and visually appealing designs. It’s an excellent way to utilize fabric scraps and can be used to craft a variety of items, including quilts, clothing, bags, and home decor. Japanese-style patchwork is particularly unique and stylish, often distinguished by its distinctive designs and high-quality craftsmanship. Ever since I started creating fabric art, my appreciation for craftsmanship has reached a new level.
I have some Japanese silk scraps that are incredibly beautiful. I’ve used them to make a button belt for the fabric bag, and I think it works well.

“Puppies among Bamboo in Snow” is an artwork by Maruyama Ōkyo, a renowned Japanese artist from the Edo period. Created in 1784, this work is one half of a pair of six-panel screens that feature ink and light color on paper. The overall dimensions of the piece are 64 x 140 inches (162.56 x 355.6 cm). The artwork is a fine example of Ōkyo’s style, which often included depictions of animals with a strong sense of realism and tender emotion. The painting, like many of Ōkyo’s works, reflects a deep observation of nature and a delicate handling of the brush that captures the essence of the subjects. This particular piece by Ōkyo is funded by the Mr. and Mrs. Allan C. Balch Fund and is part of the LACMA Collections​​. This is my reproduction of Maruyama Ōkyo’s Puppies among Bamboo in Snow.

Grapes have been a significant subject in Chinese and Japanese ink painting, often symbolizing abundance, fertility, and the wish for prosperity and success. In Chinese art, the theme of grapes can be traced back to the Song Dynasty, where they were a popular motif in both painting and poetry.

Residing in New England, autumn feels like a gift. As the days turn crisp, a kaleidoscope of gold and amber envelops the landscape. The shimmering sun casts a glow on rustling leaves, while the scent of apples and pumpkins fills the air. A cool breeze carries with it the comforting aroma of cinnamon, wrapping the surroundings in a cozy embrace.

Court Ladies Preparing Newly Woven Silk is a silk painting attributed to Emperor Huizong of the Song dynasty. It is the only extant copy of a lost original Court Ladies Preparing Newly Woven Wilk by Chinese artist Zhang Xuan. The painting depicts an annual imperial ceremony of silk production, held in spring. It shows three groups of Tang dynasty court ladies at work. #搗練圖卷
