GNSS jamming and spoofing are becoming real operational issues for maritime operators.

We’re hosting a webinar on how the threat landscape is changing, why many current approaches still fall short, where Iridium PNT fits, and what a more resilient approach can look like in practice.

We’re pleased to be joined by Andy Proctor, Managing Director of RethinkPNT, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Navigation, and Chair of its PNT Advisory Group, who will share his perspective on the threat landscape, where organizations are still not looking, and how operators should think about resilience.

Oliver Potter, our COO, will then look at where Iridium PNT fits and how that translates into maritime operations through RockFLEET Assured.

From moths to maps, via satellite. 🛰️

A huge shoutout to Dan Ambrose, who has just taken to the stage at Hardware Pioneers MAX to deliver Internet of (Tiny) Things, a brilliant look at how satellite IoT can help solve real world problems in some of the most remote places on Earth.

Dan shared the story of Project Wingping, a smart insect camera trap designed to help tackle the devastating spread of fall armyworm, one of the world’s most invasive crop pests. The concept brings together edge AI, low power hardware, Raspberry Pi, Python, cloud integration, and RockBLOCK 9704 satellite connectivity to identify species in the field and send only the most useful data back from remote deployments.

The key message? When you’re sending data from the jungle over satellite, every byte matters. Dan showed how clever data optimization - from numeric IDs and flag bits to compression, quantisation, delta encoding and binary schemas - can turn months of field observations into a tiny, affordable data stream. In the example shared, a six month deployment could transmit species data for under £35.

Massive congratulations to Dan for representing Ground Control and showing what’s possible when satellite connectivity, embedded engineering and practical problem-solving come together.

We’re at Hardware Pioneers MAX today on Stand D10. The event finishes today, so come and meet the Ground Control team to learn more about satellite IoT, RockBLOCK 9704, and how we help connect devices anywhere on the planet.

Our engineering team are prepped and ready to introduce visitors to the latest developments in satellite IoT hardware at Hardware Pioneers - come and see us at Stand D10 if you're at the show!

Don't forget Dan Ambrose's presentation on the "Internet of (Tiny) Things" tomorrow at 10:00AM in Conference Theatre 1 🪰🛰️🌍.

When small packet satellite messaging isn't enough, but a full Certus IP terminal adds too much cost, weight, or power draw, RockBLOCK 9704 hits the sweet spot.

Powered by Iridium Messaging Transport, RockBLOCK 9704 supports payloads of up to 100KB per message with low latency transmission, making it ideal for mission critical data in remote and mobile environments.

It's compact, efficient, and built for developers who need flexibility, with patch antenna and SMA options, low power sleep mode, and C, Python, and Arduino libraries.

From prototype to production, RockBLOCK 9704 gives teams a practical path to bigger payloads, faster transmissions, and reliable global connectivity through Cloudloop.

Watch the product showcase to see where it fits in the IMT lineup.

This is (almost) your last chance to register for Hardware Pioneers Max for free! Head to https://www.hardwarepioneers.com/buy-tickets, choose the CORE ticket, and then use promo code HNTRV to get free entry (we have about 5 free tickets left, I think, so don't hang about!).

This is a great chance to meet our engineering team, see the latest and greatest satellite IoT hardware, and also hear our Director of Software Engineering, Dan Ambrose, talk on the topic of "The Internet of (Tiny) Things" - tracking insects 🪰from space!

Hope to see you there 🚀

We're featured in Defense Advancement this month, discussing why modern defense and high risk operations need more than GNSS alone.

As jamming and spoofing threats continue to affect maritime, aviation and defense environments, resilient positioning is becoming a core operational requirement, and not just a fallback.

The article explores how Assured PNT (A-PNT) can help reduce reliance on a single navigation source, using independent positioning, authenticated signals, trusted timing and integration flexibility to support continuity when GNSS is disrupted or cannot be trusted.

Ice road construction in Alaska is a race against the season. Start too early, and operators risk damaging the tundra. Start too late, and they lose valuable days in an already short winter window.

On Alaska’s North Slope, beadedstream's Ice Road Monitoring Stations help operators make that call using real time subsurface temperature data from remote field sites.

Ground Control supports the satellite connectivity layer, helping move that data from the tundra back to the teams who need it.

The impact is better visibility, fewer manual site checks, more confident planning, and in some cases, access to the tundra up to 1 to 1.5 months earlier than general opening dates.

Oli Potter and Drew Jackson are in Athens this week for Posidonia Events, joining our valued partner MarinePlus on their booth.

They’re showcasing RockFLEET Assured, our resilient PNT solution for maritime operators looking to maintain trusted positioning when GNSS/GPS is unreliable, jammed or spoofed.

If you’re at the event, come and say hello - Oli and Drew would be happy to talk through how RockFLEET Assured can support safer, more resilient operations at sea.

In remote IoT, there’s often a design choice: connect sensors individually, or aggregate data locally through a gateway?

Aggregation can make sense for clustered deployments. Direct connections are more useful when assets are dispersed, mobile, or fewer in number.

But as lower cost satellite IoT and NTN mature, that tipping point starts to move. More assets may be able to justify their own direct connection, making it easier to deploy across sites without relying on local infrastructure.

Our COO Oli Potter explains more in this clip from our recent satellite LPWAN webinar.
