teeny tiny still life painting from today! "tomatoes" 4" x 4" acrylic painting on canvas (featuring tomatoes from Back Achers Farm )
first I sketched the tomatoes in real time, I had direct sunlight that gave me hard edges in the shadows and negative shapes that were really interesting. I arranged the tomatoes in front of me to give a nice composition
I used a burnt sienna to lay down my shadows and midtones. I avoided overworking the areas and used a small round brush to carve out the shapes
once I was satisfied with the shadows, I began adding color! by this time, the sun had moved and the shadows I started with were no longer there so I was glad I seized the moment when I did!
I love how the deep red peeks through the shadows and edges adding a glow and warmth overall!
tomatoes with their beautifully stiff and wonky stems are one of my favorite things to draw ๐
I absolutely am in love with how this turned out and I am looking forward to what I can paint on the remaining 3 tiny canvases I have!
