The Perkins building in the background is the building that Freelancers helped bring back to life and is now going to be 1850 Icehouse while still featuring the Freelancers Robot. Should open back up mid-July. In the meantime, downtown is coming to life so go visit some of the new places that have opened around us like Jimmy's on the Square that shared this cool history of downtown. Some local “Freelancers” doing some great things!

Lots of changes! New owners of the building and 1850 Icehouse are looking to hire! Freelancers robot will still be involved and we will post more updates as we get closer - it’s getting exciting so stay tuned!

In 2020, we took an old, abandoned building that had been sitting empty for years and turned it into a place where our community could come together, have some fun, and—on occasion—do some good.

It started with a simple idea: not just a cyber café, but a technology café—a place where we could share our love of technology and community in one space. Starting it here in Athens was truly a proof of concept, and for the most part, it was a huge success. We made great memories, hosted amazing events, and built something special together.

We are taking a short step back from the café to regroup and make some changes. This is not the end of Freelancers—just the beginning of its next chapter.

And whatever happens to this building next, we are confident it will be better than before, because we believed in leaving things better than we found them.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey so far. More to come.

We sincerely apologize to any customers who may have been affected by our Wi-Fi being down over the past week. We know how frustrating that can be and truly appreciate your patience.

We’re happy to share that the issue has been fixed and everything is now back up and working — including our Wi-Fi, gaming, and systems.

Our robot will be fully back up and operational tomorrow morning. Thank you again for bearing with us, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
