A lot of the coverage of this story focuses on the ‘romance schemes’ but in reality the most money made in this particular Nigerian scheme was called ‘CEO fraud’. Always use a formerly established means of communications with a client to confirm financial transactions. Do NOT reply to the requesting email.

Federal investigators have unsealed an Oct. 2018 indictment against more than 80 suspects involved in the online fraud, which collected at least $6 million from unsuspecting victims in part through business email compromise schemes.
