Imagine you have an entire month to take the road trip of your life, anywhere you wish. You have just won the use of a large luxury mobile home or recreational vehicle. The only limitation is that you were only given half a tank of fuel.
Of course, we can look on the bright side of things to estimate how far we could go, or we can be upset given the limited range available for this adventure. This view of things seems silly knowing that we always have the ability to top off the tank anytime we wish.
EXERCISE:
Where in either your professional or personal worlds are you operating with the half full or half empty perspective? What would be possible if you assumed an attitude of overflowing abundance instead?

You can’t pour from an empty cup.

Pretty obvious, right?

In this context it’s a metaphor for making sure we take care of ourselves.
Focusing on self-care and perceive it as a necessity rather than an indulgence.
Remember, self-care is about self-preservation, not selfishness.

We’re so often brought up to believe otherwise – putting others’ needs before our own. Most of us have seemingly endless to-do lists. If it all seems insurmountable, why not think about what has to be done today, and what can wait. Our priorities can sometimes get a bit skewed, and we can get distracted doing stuff that doesn’t really matter.

When we forget to care for ourselves the tank begins to run low…and empties. Shudders to a stop. With a fair bit of smoke and drama.

If your body or mind trying to get your attention, slow down.

Cultivate a habit of checking how full your cup really is. You might be surprised by how low your reserves have gotten – far better to realize and remedy this now, than later. Take it from me.

Take a step back every now and then, and remember, you can't pour from an empty cup.

“Who is an entrepreneur?” – type this question on any search engine and you get a whole range of answers. But for me, an entrepreneur is a person who dreams and perseveres to make that dream come true. But that’s possible only if you believe in your idea. Never, I repeat never, doubt your idea. If you don’t, why the hell should others believe in it? Do SWOT analysis before taking the plunge. Then, all you need is drive and discipline to see it through. As runaway success is no guarantee, patience and flexibility are great virtues. And always be ready to hustle, it is the only controllable pillar of success.

I spent years looking for a “teacher.” I wanted a guru, someone who could enlighten me, show me the path. Help me make sense of all the s**t that didn’t make sense to me and make me feel “self-actualized” while doing it.

But you know who those teachers are? Those mentors? Those gurus?

Happiness vs Contentment
They might seem like nearly identical words, but there is actually a very important difference between happiness and contentment. A difference that can play a big role in the way you shape and see your actions. To be content is not necessarily to be happy, but while contentment is easy to achieve, happiness is a life-long journey.

Let’s start with contentment. Contentment is about satisfaction, a careless kind of acceptance that can arise in any situation. By accepting what you have, even if it is very little, you can achieve that contentment and go through life with little worry.

Happiness, on the other hand, is volatile. Happiness is about desiring more, even if you’ve already achieved a lot, and because of that, it is always short-lived. Still, it is also a more intense kind of joy, so while it requires more effort and while there is more room for disappointment, the reward is also much greater.

Both contentment and happiness are extremes. The perfect state is always in the middle. A balance between the extremes in which we take the positive sides of both and leave behind the issues they bring.

Contentment is comfortable, but if contentment is all we have, then we are missing out on so many things that we couldn’t even imagine. Striving to make yourself into the best person you can be, to get out of your comfort-zone, to do new things and to aim for true happiness can make life so much more enjoyable, if only we stay satisfied with the things we already have. In the end, then, the difference between happiness and contentment is not about how they actually differ, but about how they can complement each other.

Success has a lot more to do with what isn’t immediately visible than it does with trophies, awards, wealth, or material things.
