Austin Galano Club

Austin Galano Club AGC is a non-profit corporation formed to serve the LGBTQA+ recovering community of the Austin area.

The Austin Galano Club (AGC) is a non-profit corporation formed to serve the recovering community of Austin and surrounding areas, specifically for the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender community, their allies, and serving all 12-step based programs and related activities. The club is focused on providing a facility and operational support for the meeting spaces for such groups, as well as prov

iding social, community education, and service opportunities to the group members served. The club will operate to further provide a place for the recovery community to have a safe, affordable, comfortable place to gather, whether for a meeting or for social purposes. Although focused on serving the GLBTQ Recovery Community, AGC welcomes all persons in recovery, or supporting those in recovery, without regard to race, color, creed, or sexual identity or orientation. While new meetings are forming all the time, AGC currently serves 23 recovery groups from 15 anonymous fellowships, with 45 regular weekly meetings. Roughly 750 people per week from the community participate in meetings at AGC, and take advantage of the social space for fellowship, step work, and service work. AGC also hosts special events for the groups that meet there, and those serving the community at large with fundraisers and social gatherings. Join us in the coffee bar for fellowship, utilize the sponsorship area for 1:1 meetings, search for work/home/stepwork on one of the computers, or just hang out on the patio among all the flowers and plants (planted and cared for by our members). The love here is overflowing…we are continually humbled and grateful for what the community has produced.

On Thursday, September 10, the City of Austin will officially proclaim Austin Galano Club Day, recognizing 14 years of service to Austin’s LGBTQ+ community, allies and people in recovery.

To have our work recognized by our city leaders — including Mayor Kirk Watson and District 4 Council Member Jose ‘Chito’ Vela — is deeply meaningful. It says something important: the work happening within these walls matters to Austin.

Galano was built on the belief that LGBTQ+ people deserved a place where they could pursue recovery without leaving part of themselves at the door. From the beginning, members created more than meeting rooms. They created a place to belong.

Today, more than 1,000 people walk through our doors each week. They come for 12-Step meetings, to work with sponsors, to volunteer, to have a cup of coffee, connect with friends or simply be somewhere they know they are welcome.

Some arrive with decades of recovery. Others walk through the door for the first time unsure whether recovery is even possible.
They find each other here. That is Galano’s place within Austin’s larger LGBTQ+ history.

Austin’s q***r community has grown stronger and more visible over the past 14 years, supported in part by organizations and gathering places where people can come together, care for one another and build community. Galano is proud to be one of those places. Our particular contribution is recovery — providing a home where LGBTQ+ people and allies can find fellowship, support and chosen family.

Fourteen years ago, volunteers came together to build this Club. They could not have known every person who would eventually sit in these rooms, celebrate a sobriety anniversary here, find a sponsor, make a lifelong friend or discover that they were not alone.

We have built the place where those things could happen.

The City of Austin proclamation will honor that legacy. It belongs to the founders who imagined Galano, the volunteers who built it, the groups that made it their home, and every person who has helped keep its doors open for the next person who needs them.

Fourteen years later, those doors are still open. And Galano is more than a place created for Austin’s LGBTQ+ recovery community. It has become part of the fabric of Austin’s LGBTQ+ community — and part of the history we continue to write together.

Come Celebrate With Us!

Everyone is invited to join us at Austin City Hall on Thursday, September 10 at 9:00 a.m., for the official presentation of the Austin Galano Club Day proclamation. Come be part of this special recognition of the community we have built together.

Then join us Saturday, September 12, from 3:00–6:00 p.m. at Austin Galano Club for our Austin Galano Day Celebration and AIR Show Auction:
https://www.austingalano.org/post/celebrating-artists-in-recovery-austin-galano-club-day

Come enjoy original artwork created by Artists in Recovery — and take home a favorite piece through the auction.

This proclamation belongs to all of us. Come celebrate 14 years of recovery, community and belonging — and what we are building for the years ahead.

Together, we build.

Today was nothing short of AMAZING! 🏳️‍🌈✨

Austin Pride and the parade were filled with so much love, joy, laughter, and COMMUNITY! I’m beyond grateful for every single person who showed up, celebrated with us, supported us, marched with us, and helped make today so special. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Galano is thriving because of COMMUNITY. We are so incredibly grateful for each and every person who walks through our doors and contributes to what makes this place so special. No matter where you come from, what your story is, or where you are on your journey—you belong here. 🫶

Today was a beautiful reminder that when we come together, we are stronger, louder, and more powerful than we could ever be alone.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and showed OUT for our community! Today was fun, fabulous, meaningful, and everything Pride should be. 🌈✨

And of course… COME ON SOBRIETY! 🥳💪🏳️‍🌈

🌟 Volunteer of the Month: Jennifer C. 🌟

Please join us in congratulating Jennifer C. as our Volunteer of the Month!

Jennifer consistently shows up on time, ready to serve, and always goes the extra mile in everything she does. Her dedication, reliability, and positive attitude make a lasting impact on both our volunteers and everyone who walks through the doors of Galano.

She greets everyone with kindness, is always willing to answer questions, and never hesitates to lend a helping hand wherever it’s needed. I’ve also had several people personally tell me how much they appreciate Jennifer’s kindness, helpfulness, and the outstanding service she provides. Hearing that kind of feedback speaks volumes about the positive impact she has on our community.

When she’s not volunteering, Jennifer enjoys expressing her creativity through 🎨arts and crafts and can often be found enjoying a game of darts.🎯

Jennifer truly embodies the spirit of service and helps make Galano a welcoming, safe, and supportive place for everyone in recovery.

Jennifer, thank you for your hard work, compassion, and unwavering commitment. We appreciate everything you do for us and are proud to recognize you as this month’s Volunteer of the Month! 🎉🎉🎉

👋🏽Hi everyone,

After the Children of Chaos meeting, someone was accidentally locked in the entryway between the security bars and the front door.

I know we’re all sometimes in a hurry when closing up, but if you’re responsible for opening or closing the club, please take a moment to check the bathrooms and common areas before locking the building to make sure no one is still inside.

Thank you all so much for your help and attention to this! Have a great Monday🌈

❤️ A HUGE THANK YOU to Mara and Kenny’s family! ❤️

Over the last couple of days, they have poured so much time, energy, and love into preparing all of the delicious pork and chicken for our 14th Anniversary Celebration. So much of what makes today special happens behind the scenes, and their hard work has certainly not gone unnoticed.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything you’ve done to help make this anniversary one to remember. We appreciate you more than words can express! ❤️🎉
