The Atlas Workshops, part of the Marrakech International Film Festival, has announced its roster for the upcoming edition from November 27-30, featuring 25 projects. This includes 16 in development and nine in production or post-production, hailing from 11 countries within the Arab world and Africa. Notable participants include Tunisian directors Youssef Chebbi and Erige Sehiri, whose features have been recognized at Cannes, and Somalia’s Khadar Ayderus Ahmed, whose film premiered at the Cannes Critics’ Week.

Lebanon’s Leila Basma and Congo’s Sammy Baloji are also set to participate, with Baloji adapting Pier Paolo Pasolini’s last screenplay. The event will showcase first glimpses of new films, such as Ala Eddine Slim’s "Agora" and Mo Harawe’s "The Village Next To Paradise." Meryam Joobeur will present images from "Motherhood," and Saïd Hamich Benlarbi will display footage of "La Mer au Loin."

The selection this year covers various genres, from Sandra Tabet’s horror "Rabies" to Adnane Baraka’s dystopian work, with a significant representation of female directors and producers among the participants chosen from 320 applications. These teams will gain assistance in various aspects of filmmaking and have the opportunity to compete in a Co-Production Market for cash prizes totaling €126,000.

Raine Allen-Miller's romantic comedy set in London, "Rye Lane," tops the nominee list for the 2023 British Independent Film Awards (Bifas). It's closely trailed by Charlotte Regan's "Scrapper" and Andrew Haigh’s "All Of Us Strangers."

"Rye Lane" boasts 16 nominations, capturing spots for best British independent film, director and debut director for Allen-Miller, as well as best screenplay nods for Nathan Bryon and Tom Melia. Vivian Oparah's talents are recognized for breakthrough and best joint lead performance with David Jonsson.

"Scrapper," also based in London, garnered 14 nominations, with five nods for Regan in categories including best film, director, and debut screenwriter.

"All Of Us Strangers" by Haigh matched with 14 nominations. It features nominations for best film, director, and screenplay for Haigh. Andrew Scott is in the running for best lead performance, while Jamie Bell, Claire Foy, and Paul Mescal received supporting performance nominations.

The BFI London Film Festival (LFF) 2023 marked its highest in-person attendance in five years with 195,665 attendees, surpassing the pre-pandemic 2019 figure of 190,000. The festival's occupancy was at 90%, with 54% of ticket bookers being new to LFF, highlighting the attraction of a new generation of filmgoers. Additionally, 225,577 people participated online, and delegate numbers rose by 12%. The Raindance Film Festival, which champions independent filmmaking, will feature films from numerous first-time directors, accounting for over 75% of the features. One highlight includes "Sisters Interrupted", a documentary by Caroline Sharp, which explores the relationship of sisters Chelsea and Tamsin Leyland, both of whom have epilepsy. The film aims to shed light on the condition and has been acquired for global distribution by Fremantle. The festival also showcases talents like actor Christian Cooke, known for "Cemetery Junction", who has directed "Embers".
