The latest edition of The Strategy Brief is live.

This week, we're digging into some big questions:

• If half of Mainers think Maine is a great place to build a business, why would only 35% recommend it to someone else?
• How is AI changing who gets found, and why is PR suddenly more important than ever?
• What can we learn about leadership from George Hale?
• Why do even carefully crafted messages sometimes miss the mark?
• Is ElevenLabs the next must-watch AI tool?

Grab a cup of coffee and settle in. There's plenty to think about in this week's issue.

We've spent a lot of time studying how Mainers think. This question gets at something fundamental - loyalty, belonging, and what it actually means to be "one of theirs."

The data has a clear answer. See if you can find it first.

SEO. AEO. GEO.

Just when you finally figured out one acronym, three more showed up.

Search is changing fast. It's no longer just about showing up on Google. More people are turning to AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to find answers, recommendations, and businesses.

So what is GEO, and why should you care?

On this episode of The Briefcase, Sutherland Weston Digital Content Strategist Makaila Hickey breaks down the differences between SEO, AEO, and GEO, what they mean for your business, and how to make sure you're not getting left behind as AI changes the way people search.

🌤 Sunday Thoughts

There's an interesting thing about the people who make us who we are: some create intentional moments to teach and influence you. Others have no idea they're doing it.

There are the people who knew exactly what they were doing. The teacher who pushed you because she saw something before you did. The mentor who held you to a standard on purpose, even when it would've been easier to let you off the hook. The father who had a lesson ready for every situation, whether you wanted one or not.

Then there's the coach who said one sentence in passing that you still think about twenty years later. The boss who gently corrected you once, and changed how you work for good. The dad who fixed things without explaining how. In the moment, none of them realized they were leaving a mark. They were just being themselves, not knowing it was adding up to anything. Sometimes it was a kind, well-timed remark. Other times, it was steady, unremarkable behavior, repeated so often it stopped looking like a lesson and started looking like who you are.

And then there are the ones you never really knew at all. Someone whose character you admired from a distance, whose way of carrying themselves made you want to live a little more like that.

All of it matters just as much.

Either way, today isn't just about thanking people for helping make us who we are. It's about noticing the moments, intentional or not, that never left you. And it's a reminder that you're already one of these people to someone else, whether you've noticed or not.

See you Monday. 😊

43% of Mainers check whether a business has a genuine Maine connection before they buy. Only 5% never do.

Most Maine businesses aren't visible enough to claim that advantage.

New research from the Maine Insights Lab breaks down when the Maine-based label actually influences buying decisions -- and what it takes to earn it.

On this episode of The Briefcase, Ric Tyler sits down with Dan Cashman to discuss what gets lost in digital communication, why misunderstandings happen so easily online, and why face-to-face conversations still matter.
