CACRC The CACRC was incorporated as a non-profit in 1997 and has been recycling electronics for the past twelve years.

Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council (CACRC) transforms electronic waste into opportunity by responsibly recycling technology and restoring access to computers that support education, workforce readiness, and community stability across Louisiana. • The CACRC is committed to providing refurbished computer systems to low-income families, non-profits, schools, and relief projects.
• The CACRC is

committed to managing incoming electronic discards within the framework of reuse, recover, and recycle; using onsite and downstream management of focus materials within the standards of R2 throughout the recycling chain.
• The CACRC is committed to the prevention of injury and ill health in its workforce and to the prevention of pollution in its activities.
• The CACRC is committed to continuous monitoring of our environmental, health and safety objectives to achieve our goals, and improve our performance.
• The CACRC is committed to complying with all legal and other requirements. Our business is part of the small niche of electronic recyclers in the country that are classified as non-profit refurbishers, currently a little over 2% of the electronic recycling industry. E-Refurbishers like the CACRC triage incoming equipment and place as much as possible into the reuse market, community reuse programs, and disaster relief programs. The CACRC is able to refurbish for reuse the working equipment that comes into our various programs and recycle the rest using qualified vendors in the country (www.cacrc.com). The CACRC receives donThe CACRC refurbishes for reuse the working equipment that comes into our various programs and recycles responsibly under our R2 certification the rest using qualified vendors in the country (www.cacrc.com). The CACRC receives donations of used computer/electronic equipment. The CACRC is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at 1400 Main Street 70802 and operates a 35,000 square foot facility. Operating as a drop-off site for the local community, the CACRC also collects electronic material in the Gulf Coast Region and hosts community e-recycling events. The CACRC reuses and recycles over 1,200 tons of electronic discards annually from government agencies, businesses, and individuals. As a licensed Microsoft Registered Refurbisher (MRR), the CACRC manages community programs- Computers for Louisiana's Families, Seniors, Veterans-which refurbish computers for schools, non-profits, and low income families. The computers are loaded with the appropriate licensed software and carry a 60-day warranty. The CACRC, under the MRR agreement, also spearheaded a national hurricane relief effort after Hurricane Katrina donating over 3,500 computers. In fall 2005 the CACRC launched the largest collection of computers nationwide for hurricane relief. Over the next 18 months the CACRC refurbished and donated free of charge 3500 computers to schools, non-profits and individuals impacted by Katrina and Rita. In 2007-2008 in partnership with the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and St. Joseph's Academy the CACRC refurbished 400 computer systems that went to the Cordoba Mexico school system and orphanages. In December 2008 the CACRC donated 100 computer systems to Mission Honduras International. In May 2008 the CACRC was featured on the Sundance Channel's Big Ideas for a Small Planet: Recycle as a model program. Since 2005 the Computers for La Families Program which sells refurbished computers to families with children of free or reduced lunch reached over 10,000 families in the state. In 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 the CACRC was awarded the DEQ's Environmental Leadership Award for Non-profits. Do you ever wonder what happens to your data when you bring it to us for recycling?

CACRC is a certified ITAD provider, which stands for Information Technology Asset Disposition. In simple terms, ITAD is the professional process of handling retired technology in a secure, documented, and responsible way. It includes collection, tracking, data destruction, testing, refurbishment, resale, donation, and recycling. Done correctly, ITAD helps organizations protect sensitive information while also extending the life of valuable technology whenever possible.

For CACRC, this work is guided by industry standards, certification requirements, and a deep commitment to trust.

CACRC has maintained R2 and RIOS certifications since 2012. R2v3 is a globally recognized electronics reuse and recycling standard that includes requirements for responsible management of used electronics, environmental protection, worker safety, and data security. RIOS, the Recycling Industry Operating Standard, is designed specifically for the recycling industry and integrates quality, environmental, health, and safety practices into one management system. Did you know that in Louisiana 1 in 5 families do not have a computer in their home? These families fully rely on a smart phone or a public computer in a library or a community center. A computer in the home can bring new opportunities, economic mobility, and hope.

Here, at CACRC, we recycle, refurbish, and redistribute devices with the goal of bringing digital access and digital opportunity throughout Louisiana. A couple of weeks ago, we attended a job fair with the Ascension Parish library and distributed laptops to individuals who are actively seeking jobs and do not have a computer in their home.

Thank you for your patience as we hit pause on the day to day last week to celebrate the incredible team behind CACRC! 💚

From processing recycling and refurbishment to outreach, programs, pickups, and everything in between, our staff works hard every day to support both our community and environment. We wanted to give them a day focused on a little appreciation (and some paintball 😄🎯).

Thank you to the team that keeps everything moving. We appreciate all that you do! ♻️

💻✨ Supporting workforce readiness in Ascension Parish through access to technology!

With support from a Capital Area United Way grant, CACRC partnered with Ascension Parish Library to provide refurbished laptops and hotspots to community members working toward employment opportunities and career growth.

In today’s digital world, reliable access to technology is essential for job searching, resume building, online training, and staying connected. We’re proud to help place these tools into the hands of individuals working toward their goals and building brighter futures.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission through donations, partnerships, and community involvement. Every device recycled with purpose helps create meaningful impact across our communities. 💚♻️

💻✨ From access to opportunity ✨💻

We recently received a testimonial from HOPE Ministries, and it perfectly captures what access to technology can mean.

When HOPE Ministries received donated computers from CACRC, it helped transform their campus into a fully functioning computer lab, creating a space where individuals can learn, grow, and take steps toward a more stable future.

Many of the clients they serve had little to no access to reliable technology. Now, they’re earning technical certifications, building resumes, applying for jobs, and exploring new career paths.

For some, it’s their first consistent access to technology in a supportive environment, and that access is building confidence, independence, and real opportunity.

This is what digital access looks like in action 💚

Today, we're reflecting on the LSU Hilltop Arboretum Earth Day event and the opportunity to share CACRC’s work alongside KEEP TIGER TOWN BEAUTIFUL, Republic Services of Baton Rouge, and Glass Half Full.

At CACRC, we often say that we work at the intersection of environmental stewardship, technology, and community impact. Yes, we recycle electronics, but the work does not stop there.

One story we shared was about a mother who reached out after her husband lost his job and their car broke down. She had the opportunity to accept a remote job, but the only barrier standing in her way was access to a computer with Windows 11.

Could we help?

Yes ma’am, we can help you.

That is why this work matters. Responsible electronics recycling keeps harmful materials out of our landfills, but when devices can be securely refurbished and redistributed, they also open doors to employment, education, stability, and opportunity.

We believe digital access creates opportunity, economic mobility, and stability.

At CACRC, we recycle with purpose and connect with impact.

In an effort to educate the Baton Rouge community on recycling, the Louisiana Master Naturalists of Greater Baton Rouge and Friends of Hilltop Arboretum hosted a Discover Nature event focused on recycling. The presentations were hosted on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m, and these organizations remind us...
