Who trains the mind?

We tend to think of reading lists as simple collections of "great books." But if we look at them through the lens of systems architecture, they are actually something much more deliberate: they are cultural training sets.

A syllabus doesn’t just offer information; it organizes memory. It determines which voices are central, which traditions are prestigious, and which histories are treated as essential.

In my latest article for the Higher Learning Hub, I break down the "hidden architecture" of our curricula. We explore:
✅ Why we should audit our human "training data" just as we audit AI.
✅ The shift from a narrow canon to a choice-driven architecture.
✅ How we can redesign education to be more honest, accountable, and expansive.

The real question isn't just "what are students reading?" It’s "who trained us to believe these specific books represented the whole?"

Note: I’ll be sharing a condensed version of these insights directly on Facebook soon, but for the full, detailed breakdown, the link above is the place to start.

A reading list is not neutral; it is a cultural training system. Discover how literary canons shape perception and why we must audit educational inputs.
