⛳FROM BEAUMONT TO PGA GREATNESS: THE STORY OF BRUCE LIETZKE⛳

From the fairways of Beaumont to the biggest stages in golf, Bruce Lietzke built a career that made Southeast Texas proud.

After moving to Beaumont as a child, Lietzke starred at Forest Park High School, graduating in 1969 before earning a golf scholarship to the University of Houston. His rise began quickly, winning the 1971 Texas State Amateur Championship and helping the Cougars capture conference success.

Lietzke turned professional in 1974 and went on to become one of the most respected players of his era. He won 13 PGA Tour events, represented the United States on the 1981 Ryder Cup team, finished runner-up at the 1991 PGA Championship, and added seven Champions Tour victories, including the 2003 U.S. Senior Open.

What made Lietzke unique wasn't just the trophies. He became famous for prioritizing family over endless practice sessions, often stepping away from the game to spend time with loved ones, yet returning to compete at the highest level. His consistency was remarkable, never finishing lower than 74th on the PGA Tour money list and making the cut in each of his first 100 tour events.

Beyond his success, Lietzke remained connected to Beaumont through junior golf programs and the community that helped shape him. He credited his brother Duane and longtime Beaumont golf professional Henry Homberg for helping develop both his game and character. He was inducted into the Museum Gulf Coast.

Bruce Lietzke passed away in 2018 at the age of 67, but his legacy lives on as one of the greatest golfers ever produced by Southeast Texas and a reminder that success and family can go hand in hand.

🏌️‍♂️ A champion on the course. A role model off it. A true Beaumont legend.
