Representing the great state of Texas, is our 2026 Texas Junior Miss Heart of the USA, Priscilla McGriff.

Priscilla is the 11 years old daughter of Patrick and Kamille McGriff of Lumberton, Texas.

• A proud 5th grade student at Lumberton Intermediate School, Priscilla is a dedicated Student Council member and natural leader among her peers.
• She is an All-Star cheerleader at Cheertown USA and a competitive volleyball player, demonstrating discipline, teamwork, and drive.
• Above all, Priscilla is a devoted big sister. She plays an active role in helping care for her brother Axl, who lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy—an experience that has shaped her compassion and strength.
• In honor of her brother, she is currently writing a children’s book, with all proceeds dedicated to helping find a cure for DMD.
• Inspired by her journey, Priscilla aspires to become a genetics doctor, determined to better understand and one day help change the future of rare diseases.
• Her dreams are as bold as her heart—she hopes to one day earn the title of Miss USA and walk the runway at New York Fashion Week.
• In her free time, Priscilla enjoys visiting the beach and collecting seashells, finding beauty in life’s simple moments.

With grace, purpose, and a heart for others, Priscilla McGriff is proudly representing Texas—and she is just getting started.

Sheriff Colton Havard Completes 124th Session of the National Sheriffs’ Institute Leadership Development Course

Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard has completed participation in the 124th session of the National Sheriffs’ Institute (NSI) Leadership Development course held in Quantico, Virginia. This no-cost program is provided by the National Institute of Corrections (NIC), U.S. Department of Justice, in collaboration with the Major County Sheriffs of America.

Sheriff Havard was selected to join twenty-two other sheriffs from across the country for this unique opportunity to deeply assess their individual leadership strengths and define a clear leadership direction tailored to their unique roles as elected officials and Chief Executive Officers of their respective Sheriff’s Offices.

The NSI is an executive leadership training program designed specifically for sheriffs to prepare them for all matters that impact the Office of the Sheriff. The NSI was first developed and presented in the early 1970s in response to a need by sheriffs to meet the evolving demands of the office.

Sheriff Havard was proud to represent the citizens of Newton County at a national level and collaborate with other sheriffs across the nation.
