Another project/display I was recently involved with.

If you are familiar with the 1983 movie Christine, than this will make sense, if not you won't understand.😏

This is my brothers car. (Denny, of Denny's Car Haulin) A 1958 DeSoto. It has been on loan to my wife and I for the past 5 years for yard art. She REALLY likes this car !

We nick named it "Chuck" and referred to him as Christine's cousin Chuck. Chuck is a similar car/body style to Christine. The biggest difference is Chuck is a 4 door. Christine is a 2 door 1958 Plymouth Fury.

My wife and I decided it was time for a change of scenery, so we asked Denny to take it back. Long story short, Denny inquired about partially bringing Chuck to life.😮

So we rigged it with motion sensors that turn on the radio and headlights. (similar to scenes from the movie)

We had it on display at The 2026 Belvidere Heritage Days car show. Some people liked it, some people were a little freaked out by it and some people wouldn't go near it.🙂😲😬

We plan to display it at a few more events locally.

This is one of my most recent projects. It was unveiled at the Belvidere Heritage Days parade today.

When I was asked to work on this project I felt a little extra pride. I was asked to come up with a version of the current Boone County (ILLINOIS😏) Sheriff’s squad car lettering that incorporated the 2026 USA 250 Year Anniversary. This squad will be used for area celebrations as well as an active squad car. At some point the “patriotic” part of the lettering may be removed.

My plan / layout was done so the Boone County and Sheriff are exactly where they are on a regular squad. The flag graphic was designed around that so if the time comes, I can remove the flag and apply the normal brown graphic. Not replacing the whole lettering job.

Also, in an effort to prevent anyone from whining about wasting taxpayer money, and even though a fair amount of effort went into designing and producing this one-off lettering job, my wife and I have decided to only charge the Sheriff’s department the cost of a “normal” BCS squad lettering job. You know . . . community spirit !😎

Wouldn’t it be cool if Matchbox “intentionally” produced a Boone County “ILLINOIS” squad car of this patriotic version.😉

I am very thankful to be given the ability and talent to do what I have over my 46 year career in this business. I take great pride in lending my ability to community projects like this. Many go unnoticed. I like to think I am fairly humble, but it feels good to get a little praise every now and then.🙄😎

This is the start of our 39th year in business.

We somewhat recently stumbled on to a "old" ledger that my wife used to use to keep track of our jobs.

Although I have been doing lettering since 1980. Our 15th job after "officially" going into business for our selves, was lettering and pin-striping a stock trailer for Larry Fowler in 1987.

Fast forward nearly 39 years, we recently lettered a semi for Larry. I think that's a reasonable length of longevity on both our parts.

I haven't looked at the entire ledger, but it sure is an interesting taking a trip down memory lane.🙂

Ok, so this post isn’t really that important, read it if you’re bored. Carry on if you have better things to do.😃

Recently we have had inquiries about how many “big rocks” we have and where do we keep them all.

We have two vinyl balls, Sticky and Scrappy, that people think are big rocks on our property. “What is a vinyl ball?” Scrappy has a page that explains it very well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1952358298384364/

Sticky, our first born🙄 (vinyl ball), was started in the early 2000’s; Scrappy in 2010. Through the years, usually after they start showing some age, they will receive some sort of facelift.

This fall Sticky (he lives down by the road, our driveway marker) received such a facelift. He was transformed to look like a pumpkin. Last weekend we changed him again to his current look, the snowman head. Kind of fitting based on the pending weather this weekend.

They will likely stay the way they are until spring. I have an idea for Sticky in the spring . . . stay tuned . . . if you want.🤓

We are massively backed up with work right now, but we had to squeeze this job in late yesterday. Brain and Dave want to use it to help with hauling grain for their family farm this fall harvest.

This is truck number 100 for Gallano Trucking.

It is a 1985 International Cabover.

It’s a simplistic lettering job compared to most Gallano trucks, but it fits the nostalgic era.

Keep an eye out, you might see this relic hauling grain around our county this fall.
