The best brand conversations I've ever had started with a deadline.

For a summer magazine ad.
For a festival sign.
For a new drink menu.

And then somewhere in the middle of talking about fonts and copy deadlines — there it is.

Bombshell Burgers. ARTinis. Mean Rita's Soups.

The thing so specifically YOU that nothing else comes close.

That's what I'm looking for in every project. It's usually hiding somewhere completely ordinary.

A drink menu. A festival sign. Maybe your pet pot-belly pig?

That's where we start.

Walk into almost any small business and you'll feel it immediately.

The people are specific. Warm, weird, wonderful, completely unrepeatable. The owner has a story. A reason they do this. A way they do it that nobody else does quite the same way.

Then you look at their sign. Their menu. Their page.

Generic. Interchangeable. Could be anybody.

That gap — between who they actually are and how they're showing up — that's exactly where I work.

You are your brand. My job is just helping it show.

I'm making custom match boxes because they just make me happy and are the coolest things! See if you can guess the business. (Next working one up that looks like my B&B 💕)

The logo came from one person. The website from another. Someone's nephew set up the page.

They all exist. They just don't look like the same business.

Different fonts. Different colors. Different feelings entirely. A customer who finds you on Google and then walks past your sign could be forgiven for thinking they're two different places.

They’re all fine. They just don’t tell one story.

And here's the good news —

It's fixable.

Maybe we should talk.

These paintings have been living in my studio since Open Doors. Apparently they wanted to be bedding.

Flora & Felines — my cats-hiding-in-plants collection — mocked up as pillows and duvets. I honestly can't decide which one I'd want on my own bed.

Which one would be on yours? 🌿🐱

Here's how you can tell when a logo is truly ownable.

It couldn't belong to anyone else. Even in sketch form — before color, before refinement, before anything is final — you already know exactly what kind of business this is. What it feels like. Who it's for.

A Cheshire grin. A cake disguised as a top hat. Nobody pulled these from a template.

Unmistakably, impossibly, only you.

Yours should be that ownable.
