Sunday, for half the world it’s the first day of the week, must feel weird 😝 well had some rainy day so got a chance to take in a lot of work and playing catchup today.
Had 3 PlayStation 5’s and one Xbox series X this week with various problems, one that was pretty clogged with dust and a hot spot on the chip.
Did a Google Pixel 9 battery replacement, boy they don’t make it easy, worse than Apple, they must be taking lessons 🤷‍♂️
Had a few iPhone screen replacement and a MacBook that was overheating due to battery degradation.
I will be back on a normal schedule in October but until then look for me being around on rainy days 😉

As summer is almost here and the repair biz slows down, I will be limited to random hours for fixing your devices so it is best to message me here for scheduling a repair. I also wanted to share something pretty cool and bring attention to our disposable society which seems to get worse every year, please read on:

A disposable v**e contains a microcontroller, a battery, a wireless chip, and enough processing architecture that an engineer pulled one from a trash can, stripped it down, and turned it into a functioning web server delivering 160 millisecond page loads from hardware that was designed to be thrown away after the liquid ran out. The components inside a discarded v**e are not primitive. They are small, cheap, mass produced computing hardware that billions of units worth are entering landfills every year because the device they power has one designed purpose and no designed second life.

What this engineer built in a weekend with salvaged hardware exposes something the electronics industry has carefully avoided making obvious. The computational power being discarded in single use consumer devices globally every year dwarfs the processing capacity of most small computing infrastructure in developing regions that lacks access to it. One engineer with a dead v**e built a web server from trash, can you believe it?

Now, the question nobody in the disposable electronics supply chain wants to answer is…what happens when enough people start asking what else is in the trash.

—On the Workbench—

Figured I’d name my almost weekly blurb 😁

This week we had more classic electronics for repair though sadly I didn’t get many pictures.
We had several iPads in for repair and one that got kneeled on, breaking the screen and bending the iPad itself. Was it repairable? Yes, we replaced the screen and while I can straighten the bend it will not be perfectly straight and a solid case is recommended to help keep the iPad from flexing. Phones are more problematic as they have antennas built into the body and wind up breaking but the casing is replaceable though might not be affordable in some cases like the age of the phone.

We also had an iPod 4th generation (2010) in for a charging issue which fortunately just needed a new battery. Still had the original 1.8” hard drive, it will be 26 years old in July.

And lastly we had some Apple AirPod Pro 2’s in for a cleaning. We do offer cleaning of devices, usually for resale. Shown in the pictures we meticulously cleaned them with 90% IPA and Hydrogen Peroxide then put under ultraviolet light for total disinfection.

The Apple Airpod Pro 2’s are on consignment, which were barely used for a couple hours (didn’t work out for them) this like new set will be selling for $150. I also have the exact same set (I upgraded to latest) and also cleaned in same manner for $100. Both sets have original box complete with all accessories.

I will possibly have other electronics for sale, check market place for future items.

This week on “As the World Turns” . . . Sorry wrong soap opera 😂 Anyways we had some classic game systems this week and got some good pics too.

Started with an Xbox 360 for a complete cleaning and thermal paste replacement, overall this one was in good condition.

Next we have a Switch Lite for a battery and left joystick replacement. Battery removal took almost an hour, (look at the pictures captions) definitely had some tough glue.

Finally we have a 22 year old PlayStation 2 Slim. We are completely going through it. We start with breaking down all the components to see what it will need. We found quite a few cold solder joints on most of the connectors and will replace the fan, clock battery and thermal pads with all this work, let’s see if it’ll last another 22 years.

Happy Friday all, looks like weather is slowly getting better soon the trees will be budding (some are) and it’ll be green again soon. 😁

we are got busier this week from word of mouth. (thank you🙏🏻) A lot of PlayStation 5’s, not for repairs but for maintenance (cleaning) and a good thing too, a few could have had some serious issues including chip failures. (not worth repairing) it’s what we try to prevent and for $45-$65 well worth it and can usually get it done same day. Check the pictures as some have descriptions. 😉

Also found a Samsung Phone on our street, most likely lost during the winter, went to charge it and did nothing so opened it up and nothing but corrosion everywhere, no saving it though I did recycle the battery.

Also that Google pixel screen replacement came in and has to be the most delicate replacement I’ve done yet. The display is razor thin and can’t be touched or have the protective film on it during first boot up. 😮

Next week we have an old 4th generation iPod coming in (I still own a few and use them while hiking or driving) for repair.
