🚨Elder fraud is an epidemic!🚨

We're living in a world that is more unrecognizable every day. Here's some eye-opening statistics about elder fraud from the FBI:

📈Elder fraud reports increased by 14% in 2023.

💸Seniors over 60 lost $3.4 billion to internet fraud last year—an 11% increase from the previous year, and more than twice as much as any other age group.

🎯 Despite being the least frequent internet users, people over 60 are the most targeted group, making up nearly a quarter of all internet fraud victims in 2023.

With the rise of scams powered by artificial intelligence, it's harder every day to tell what's real. It will only get worse if we don't take action against it!

“If we are to choose a flag to unite us, let it be this one.

Not a variant streaked with off-kilter hues, nor one marred by the skewed beliefs of the extremist minority. Neither swathed in black, nor softened in pastels. But this one - this singular flag, embodying a shared vision of collective harmony for the benefit of all.

Our words and actions imbue this flag with meaning. Currently, it seems each of us harbors an individual, excluding interpretation, a division stemming, perhaps, from the forgotten truth that this flag is a canopy for us all. Under its cloth, we stand united, we stand equal.

Unity doesn't demand us to agree on everything. It does, however, ask us to cohabit peacefully, affirming our belief in unassailable human rights, including Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Protecting my neighbor's rights is safeguarding my own.

At present, our shared objective as a nation appears to have slipped away into the shadows as each faction increasingly looks inward, hastening a mutually destructive path.

Yet, from the crucible of past trials, a resilient hope arises. A hope that we will rediscover our unity of purpose to uphold the noble ideals that this flag symbolizes. Yes, we acknowledge the innocents sacrificed and the falsehoods told that also shaped this nation. To deny the shadows of our past, to reject the signs of our decline, would be arrogance. But equally, we are the nation that ceaselessly reaches for its better self, almost against its own instincts, it seems.

So when queried about who this flag represents, my reply is uncomplicated: it's for every single one of us, and none shall proclaim otherwise.”

How I really "got" the difference between Equal and Equitable.

Of course I understood the dictionary definition and intellectually understood the difference, it still felt conceptual. Then it happened at work! It happened becuase someone at work spoke Truth to Power. I just happen to be the Power.

----EQUAL
We have a company policy that states you get your birthday off work AND if that birthday falls on a Sat or Sun, you can pick the adjacent Friday or Monday to take off. One of our team has a birthday on the same day as a Holiday, when none of us are at work. So he never got to take advantage of that perk. Been like that for years.


----EQUITABLE
It never occurred to me that the birthday rule off would apply to someone who's birthday is outside that parameter. But my employee, through no fault of their own, wasn't able to get the benefit I was extending to others.
I mean, why would he? He's outside the parameters (which are totally made up, like all rules) and so this doesn't apply. It doesn't matter that through no fault of his own he has to work days that his co-workers do not.

Understanding that at the end of the day, my policy was well intentioned but also needlessly discriminatory, I changed it.
Do we have extra scheduling and tracking? Yes. Are we now techically reducing efficiency and added to cost overhead? Yes.

That cost is nothing compared to someone feeling like they are being treated fairly. From a purely business standpoint I have created a huge amount of employee loyalty.

It was in their and my best interest to change the rule, I just needed someone to point it out and be willing to listen.
