Security Tip 1 - Phone Phishing Millions can be lost!
By: Dave Smith, A client, related this story.
It is crucial to verify who you are speaking with! Recently, a customer reported receiving a call from their bank regarding a security issue. The caller had all the customer's contact information and knew many details about the bank, which made the customer less suspicious of the potential scam. Unfortunately, the situation ended badly, and the scammer managed to drain all the client's bank accounts.
When your financial institution or any organization asks for confidential information, ensure you know who you are dealing with. Ask for their contact details, but do not use the number they provide. Instead, call the organization's main number to verify the person's identity before sharing confidential information. Generally, most organizations will not reach out to you directly. In the event of an active security issue, they typically send an automated message or voicemail instructing you to contact them or provide a unique security PIN or question.
