ATTN CONTRACTORS: Google is shutting down the standard-alone Local Services Ads (LSA) portal.
If you run a Home Services business, your LSA setup is officially migrating into Google Ads under Performance Max pay-per-lead campaigns.
Don't panic—this isn't just another tech headache. If you run a tight shop, it’s actually a huge opportunity to dominate your local market.
👉 Here’s the plain-English breakdown of what’s changing, what stays the same, and how to keep your phone ringing:

What Stays the Same?
You’re still paying per lead, NOT per click.
Your ads still sit at the very top of Google Search and Maps with your reviews and trust badges.
Homeowners still call or message you directly.

What’s Changing?
One Single Dashboard: No more logging into a separate LSA app. Everything now lives inside the main Google Ads platform.
AI Bidding: Manual max-cost limits are out. Google’s AI now uses Target CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) to target high-intent local homeowners.
Daily Budgets: You'll switch from simple weekly caps to average daily budgets.
Data Reset: Historical reporting won't automatically transfer—make sure to back up your old LSA lead reports ASAP!

👉 The Catch Every Contractor Needs to Know
Under Performance Max, Google marks every inbound call or message as a "conversion" standard—whether you answered it or let it go to voicemail.
If a $90 emergency lead calls while you're 20 feet up on a roof or under a sink and it hits voicemail: You still pay for that lead.
Google’s algorithm marks your slow response time and lowers your local ad ranking.
👉 How to Prepare Your Shop Today
Export Your Data: Save your historical LSA lead stats now to track your baseline numbers.
Clean Up Your Google Business Profile: Your GBP syncs directly to these new campaigns. Keep your reviews, hours, and info accurate.

Separate Your Trade Services: Don't blend low-ticket drain cleans with $10k HVAC installs into one budget. Split them out!
Plug Missed-Call Leaks with AI: You can't afford missed calls. Implement automated AI intake that instantly texts back and qualifies callers while you’re out on the job site.

Should you be using Ai to Run Your Google Ads in 2026?

Yes. But there is an important distinction.

Use AI to help run your marketing. Don't turn your marketing over to AI.

Google is making that line harder to see.

Local Services Ads are moving toward Performance Max, where Google's AI can make more of the decisions around bidding, placements, audiences and optimization.

And that sounds pretty good.

Turn it on.
Give Google a budget.
Tell it you want leads.
Let the machine figure out the rest.

What could possibly go wrong?

Here's the problem.

Google doesn't know what a good customer looks like for your contracting business until you teach it.

It doesn't know that you want a $25,000 roof instead of a $300 repair.

It doesn't know that you want replacement HVAC systems instead of thermostat calls.

It doesn't know that the homeowner 12 miles away is worth pursuing while the "lead" 75 miles away isn't.

And it certainly doesn't know your profit margin.

You do.

That's where I think AI and experienced marketing work extremely well together.

Let AI process data.

Let AI identify patterns.

Let AI help with research, reporting, testing and optimization.

But somebody who understands the business still needs to decide:

What are we selling?
Who do we want?
Where do we want them?
What is a qualified lead?
What can we afford to pay for one?
And did that lead eventually turn into revenue?

AI is a powerful tool.

Judgment is still skilled labor.

And so is marketing.

Marketing is skilled labor. It should produce measurable work.

MORE TRAFFIC ISN’T ALWAYS THE ANSWER.

Most marketers want to sell you more traffic.

Run more ads.
Buy more leads.
Spend more money.

But sometimes the smartest move is not getting more people to see your ad.

It is getting better results from the traffic you already paid for.

Here is what that looked like in my roofing business.

I would run a Google Search campaign over the weekend and aim for roughly 3,000 impressions.

At a 2% click-through rate, that produced about 60 clicks.

At 3%, it produced about 90 clicks.

Same market.
Same advertising campaign.
Nearly the same amount of work.

But that one-point improvement gave me 30 additional chances to turn a homeowner into an appointment.

Not every click became a lead. Not every lead became an estimate. And not every estimate became a sale.

But I could usually count on closing two roofs—sometimes three—from a strong weekend campaign.

At a 2% rate, I might end up with only one sale and very little room for error.

The average roof was around $25,000.

So we are not talking about a meaningless percentage on a Google Ads dashboard.

We are talking about the difference between:

One roof sold
Two or three roofs sold
Crews working
Revenue coming in
Marketing paying for itself

That is why I do not get excited about impressions, clicks or traffic by themselves.

The real question is:

How much of that traffic turned into legitimate appointments and profitable work?

Before you spend more money chasing more traffic, fix the leaks in the system you already have:

Your ad.
Your offer.
Your landing page.
Your follow-up.
Your sales process.

A small improvement at each step can make a very large difference at the bottom line.

Marketing is skilled labor. It should produce measurable work.

A look behind the curtain at Parr Leads today... 🔍

Right now, we’re optimizing search terms for a client whose ad account was spending $15/click on terms like "how to fix a leaky pipe DIY".

That’s not a customer looking to hire a pro—that’s a homeowner looking for a YouTube tutorial! 💸

We cut out those bad terms, redirected the budget to high-intent terms like "licensed plumber near me," and pointed the traffic to a high-converting mobile landing page.

The Result? Same budget, double the phone calls.

If you suspect your current marketing agency (or DIY setup) is wasting money on bad clicks, let us take a look under the hood.
