Autism is complex. Don’t reduce it to one story.

The spectrum is broader.
Diagnoses are increasing.
And support needs can vary greatly.

→ Look beyond the LABEL.
→ Recognize DIFFERENT NEEDS.
→ Close RESEARCH GAPS.
→ Listen to LIVED EXPERIENCE.
→ Use SUBTYPES CAREFULLY.

The goal isn’t to decide who is “more autistic.”

It’s better understanding, better research, and better support.

PARENTS & CAREGIVERS OF AUTISTIC CHILDREN:
Don’t wait for graduation to plan for adulthood.

School focuses on IEPs, grades, therapies, and routines.
But adulthood brings bigger questions:

Work. Healthcare. Housing. Money. Transportation. Community.

Start planning early:

→ START before the final school year.
→ ASK what your child wants.
→ FOCUS on strengths, not limitations.
→ RETHINK independence. Support counts too.
→ BUILD a team for what comes next.

The goal isn’t to fit an autistic young person into someone else’s idea of adulthood.

It’s to support choices, needs, and a life on their own terms.

→ Save This Before The Next IEP Meeting.

PARENTS, EDUCATORS, CLINICIANS, EMPLOYERS: Are you measuring the wrong thing?

We notice the speech.
The eye contact.
The behavior.
The response time.

But are we noticing the person behind them?

Different communication ≠ less to say.
Different learning ≠ less ability.
Different responses ≠ less value.

Look beyond the difference.
→ See the ABILITY.
→ Understand the COMMUNICATION.
→ Question the BARRIER.
→ Create more CHOICE.

The goal isn’t to make autistic people look more typical.

It’s to remove barriers and recognize ability.

Because different does not mean less.

→ Save this.

AUTISTIC BRAIN: Knows the answer.🧠
AUTISTIC WORDS: Please wait… 😂

You can understand something deeply and still struggle to explain it on the spot.

Processing time ≠ lack of understanding.

Sometimes the knowledge is ready.
The words just need a minute. 😭

→ Save this for the next time someone mistakes silence for not knowing.

AUTISM RESEARCHERS, ADVOCATES & LEADERS: ABA spending deserves harder questions.

More spending does not always mean better care.

Ask what matters:

→ Are outcomes improving?
→ Is care individualized?
→ Are autistic voices being heard?
→ Is quality of life improving?

Hours and claims are numbers. People are the outcome.

Measure what actually changes lives.
Hold systems accountable.
Keep care person-centered.

AUTISM RESEARCHERS:
Are Genes and Environment More Connected Than We Think?

For years, autism research has studied genetic risk.

But genes don’t tell the whole story.

A new framework, PGS-TRI, helps researchers separate genetic, family,
and environmental effects using data
from 18,000+ children and their parents.

One key finding?
Genetic scores were less accurate across some ancestry groups,
showing why better representation matters.

The study also identified CADM2 as a target for further research.

This isn’t a diagnostic or prediction tool.
It’s a step toward asking better questions
about autism biology and individual differences.

→ Save this research. Follow the clues.

What should researchers study next: genes, environment,
or how they interact? 👇

EDUCATORS. SPECIAL EDUCATION TEAMS. SCHOOL LEADERS. AUTISM PROVIDERS.

Before your next safety meeting, remember these 7 HARD TRUTHS:

→ 1. Diagnosis ≠ safety plan. Know the student.
→ 2. “Keep them safe” ≠ strategy. Have a real plan.
→ 3. Behavior is DATA. Look for the why.
→ 4. More control ≠ more safety. Teach skills.
→ 5. One plan ≠ every student. Individualize support.
→ 6. Safety ≠ one person’s responsibility. Train the team.
→ 7. Safety should expand opportunity. Not limit life.

🚨 THE HARD TRUTH:
A safety plan must define what to teach, what to change, and who is responsible.

LEADERS, EDUCATORS, EMPLOYERS & HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS:

If you serve the autism community, look beyond expectations.

Different communication ≠ less capable.
Different behavior ≠ less intelligent.
Different thinking ≠ less valuable.

Inclusion isn't asking autistic people to fit the system.
It's questioning whether the system fits everyone.

Ask yourself this Monday:
What talent might I be missing because I'm looking for it the wrong way? 👇

🚨 “Just be yourself.”

My autism:
“Which version?” 😂

Social me.
Work me.
Family me.
Too-tired-to-talk me.
“I rehearsed this conversation 14 times” me. 😭

Then:

“Why are you so quiet?”
Talks.
“Wow, you talk a lot.”

No eye contact:
“Are you listening?”

Eye contact:
“Why are you staring?” 😂

Please pick a lane.

For autistics, “just be yourself” can be complicated.

Sometimes it feels like:
“Which version of me will cause the fewest complaints?”

That’s exhausting.

🩵 Different isn’t wrong.
🩵 Silence isn’t an error.
🩵 Masking shouldn’t be the price of acceptance.

📍Being yourself shouldn’t require a user manual.

🚨 A late autism diagnosis may not change your life.

It may change how you understand it.

The childhood misunderstandings.
The social exhaustion.
The sensory overload.
The years spent trying to fit in.

Suddenly, some things have context.

1. “Too much” → Misunderstood.
↳ Sensitive ≠ weak.
↳ Intense ≠ difficult.

2. Success → Doesn’t erase exhaustion.
↳ Achievement can hide the cost.

3. Diagnosis → A new perspective.
↳ Some past experiences may finally make sense.

4. Masking → Hidden effort.
↳ “You seem fine” doesn’t tell the whole story.

5. Diagnosis → Better questions.
↳ What helps?
↳ What drains me?
↳ What needs to change?

📍 The label may not change who you are.
The understanding can change what comes next.
