National Sickle Cell Awareness Month
Behind every diagnosis is a patient, a family, and a community impacted by the challenges of living with a chronic condition. During National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, we recognize the millions affected by sickle cell disease, as well as the researchers, clinicians, caregivers, and advocates working to advance treatment options and improve quality of life.
At Stark Raving Health, we’re proud to support this progress by developing patient recruitment campaigns that help connect eligible patients with clinical research opportunities.

Recruiting for rare disease clinical trials requires a strategy built around precision, innovation, and a deep understanding of the patient journey.
Our latest case study explores how we helped support a Graft-versus-Host Disease (GvHD) clinical trial recruitment campaign by implementing a dynamic media strategy designed to reach a highly specialized audience across 17 countries and 26 languages.
With a limited patient population, complex regulatory considerations, and evolving platform restrictions, the challenge was clear: connect eligible patients and healthcare providers with an opportunity to participate in critical research.
Through targeted media planning, multilingual outreach, and data-driven optimization, we helped create a global recruitment strategy designed to increase awareness and support enrollment for an investigational GvHD prevention treatment.
Every participant in rare disease research represents a meaningful opportunity to advance scientific understanding and bring new possibilities to patients in need.
Read the full case study to learn how strategic media can help overcome the unique challenges of rare disease clinical trial recruitment.

Primary Biliary Cholangitis Clinical Trial
Recruiting for a rare disease is challenging. Recruiting patients with moderate-to-severe disease who have already undergone initial treatment narrows the field even further.
That was the challenge behind a clinical trial for Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), a rare condition affecting approximately 1 in 3,000 people.
To reach this highly specific patient population, we developed a compassionate, educational recruitment toolkit grounded in a deep understanding of the PBC patient profile. The creative needed to do more than generate awareness—it had to communicate clearly and sensitively with potential participants while also giving study sites the tools they needed to support recruitment.
Our latest showcase takes you inside the campaign, highlighting the messaging, creative approach, and materials developed to help connect the right patients with this important research opportunity.

Depression Clinical Trial Recruitment Case Study
Reaching patients with major depressive disorder requires more than simply putting a clinical trial in front of the right audience.
Many potential participants have already tried multiple treatments without finding adequate relief—and may be understandably skeptical about another option. For a Phase 2 study evaluating an investigational antidepressant with a novel mechanism of action, our challenge was to communicate complex science clearly while giving patients a compelling reason to consider participating.
Our creative and media teams developed a recruitment approach designed around the realities of living with depression: the frustration of inadequate symptom relief, concerns about treatment side effects, and the need for communication that offers hope without overpromising.
The result was a patient-centered campaign that combined thoughtful messaging with strategic media placement to connect research opportunities with people actively looking for something different.
Our latest case study explores the strategy behind the campaign—and what it can teach us about recruiting for complex mental health studies.

Rare disease affects 300+ million people worldwide. While only 5% of the ~10,000 identified rare diseases have an approved treatment, the market is booming: several programs around the world have been put in place to push research forward.
The bottleneck? Finding — and keeping — patients. 80% of rare disease trials miss their enrollment timelines, and over half end early from low patient accrual. We broke down why rare disease recruitment is a fundamentally different problem than mainstream trial recruitment, and what actually works when your entire eligible population might be a few dozen people worldwide.

Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) is playing an increasingly important role in clinical trial recruitment.
Long before a patient begins searching for information online, they may already be thinking about their health while sitting in a specialist’s waiting room, stopping at a pharmacy, or joining a family member for an appointment. These real-world moments create meaningful opportunities to introduce relevant clinical trial opportunities when healthcare is already top of mind.
DOOH gives sponsors and CROs a way to reach potential participants in healthcare-focused environments through targeted, measurable, and programmatic media placements. As part of an integrated recruitment strategy, it can expand campaign reach, complement digital efforts, and help connect with patients in places where health-related conversations and decisions are already happening.
In our latest blog, we look at the role DOOH can play in today’s clinical trial recruitment landscape, including which environments may offer the greatest opportunities, how geography can shape media planning, and what sponsors should consider when it comes to measurement, compliance, and integration with other campaign channels.
Have you used DOOH as part of a patient recruitment campaign? We’d be interested to hear what you’ve learned and what approaches have worked for your studies.

Effective clinical trial recruitment isn’t just about reaching more people—it’s about reaching the right people.
Our latest case study highlights how an innovative targeting strategy helped drive recruitment for a Dyslipidemia clinical trial, connecting qualified participants with a study focused on adults with high cholesterol who were not currently taking medication.
With more than 93 million American adults affected by high cholesterol, the opportunity to improve cardiovascular health is significant. But finding the right participants for research requires a strategic approach that goes beyond broad awareness.
By identifying high-value audiences and targeting the environments where eligible participants were most likely to engage, we delivered quality referrals while cutting recruitment costs in half and completing the campaign on time and under budget.
Behind every enrollment is a person taking an active role in their health journey—and every participant helps move critical medical research forward.
Read the full case study to discover how precision targeting can improve recruitment efficiency and help connect patients with meaningful clinical trial opportunities.

Great clinical trial creative does more than look polished — it helps make complex research more understandable and accessible for the people it aims to reach.
Our latest Campaign Showcase features the patient-focused recruitment materials we developed for the Phearless Study, a clinical trial evaluating BMN 307, an investigational gene therapy for phenylketonuria (PKU).
PKU is a rare genetic disorder caused by a deficiency of the PAH enzyme, which is needed to metabolize phenylalanine. To support participant education and engagement, we developed a cohesive suite of materials and campaign assets designed to make the study experience easier to understand and navigate.
The result was a unified creative system that translated complex clinical and scientific information into clear, approachable communications for patients and study participants.
Browse the flipbook to see how thoughtful, patient-focused creative can help bring clarity to the clinical trial journey.
