1. Proper documentation.

2. Statutory time limit.

Let me explain to you common mistãke some people make.

When it comes to lending money to someone, documentation is very IMPORTANT. A lot of people give out money based on words of mouth. However when issue arises it may be very hard to prove the amount involved. To save yourself from such strēss, always document your loan transactions.

Secondly, you do not have all the time in the world to legally recover your money. In law, you are expected to bring an action for recovery of your money within six years statutory time period. If you sleep on your right to bring an action within six years, the Court may not hear you once the action is Statutory Barred.

So always document your loan transactions and remember that the Law aids the vigilant and not the indolent.

Know your rights!

WHAT TO DO IF POLICE ARREST YOU OR CALL YOU FOR QUESTIONING. Pt 1

Many people panic when the police say follow us to the station. Panic can cause people to say or do things that make the situation worse.

Whether you are innocent or not, how you conduct yourself during an arrest or questioning is very important.

If the Police Want to Arrest you, stay calm and do not resist and avoid the following:

1. Do not run ;running may make the situation worse
2. Do not fight or resist arrest , this can become a separate offence
3. Do not insult or argue with officers

Instead, stay calm and cooperate and politely ask what the issue is, what offence you’re being accused of and most importantly ask for their ID and warrant of arrest.

You have the right to know;

• Why you are being arrested
• The offence you allegedly committed
• The name and station of the officer involved.

Under the Nigerian Law, you have the following rights;

✅ Police must inform you of the reason for your arrest
✅ You have the right to remain silent
✅ You have the right to speak to a lawyer
✅ You have the right to make a phone call

Generally, the police cannot detain you for more than 24 hours without taking you to court, except in certain serious cases where the period may extend to 48 hours.

Understanding your rights and staying calm can help you handle police encounters properly.

Avoid avoidable wahala.
