Had a great time on WPKZ’s Wednesday K Zone Lunchbox with Howie Kahn and Jen Stanovich talking websites, local SEO, and what actually helps Central Mass businesses get found online.

One of the big points we talked about: the fundamentals haven’t changed — but where people search has.

If your business isn’t showing up in Google or AI tools like ChatGPT, it’s often not because you’re bad at what you do. It’s because your website isn’t clearly showing:

* what you do
* who you help
* what makes you different
* and why people should trust you

Google and AI search tools are both looking for signals of expertise, authority, and trust — and your website has to do more of that work than ever.

When the right people can finally find you, enquiries follow.

That's what these graphs show. A local business that was doing great work—but hardly anyone searching online could find them.
After we worked together, two things changed: more people discovered their website, and more of those people reached out.

Here's what we actually did: We talked about what makes their business different. What they're really known for. Then I researched how people in their area search for those exact services—specifically the searches that signal someone is ready to buy, not just browsing for information.

There's a big difference between ranking for terms that bring curious visitors and ranking for terms that bring local prospects ready to buy.
From there, it was about making sure their website and Google Business Profile clearly communicated their expertise—using the words real customers actually type into Google when they need help, paired with authentic content that shows what they do best.

No tricks. No keyword stuffing. Just authentic representation of the business and strategic use of the words we use to describe it.

When Google can clearly understand what your business does—and potential customers with real intent immediately recognize themselves in your messaging—visibility improves. And enquiries follow.

I just ran a Local SEO audit for a business owner who's amazing at what she does. Her website shows up when people search her business name — but not when they search for the services she provides.
