There are two kinds of conference attendees. The ones who collect tote bags and the ones who collect ideas. Ok, Ok, we've accumulated a few tote bags over the years. But it's always the conversations that make the trip worthwhile.

TEC Services Group is looking forward to returning to the UK Credit & Collections Conference in Manchester on September 11. If you're attending, stop by our tables and let's talk about AI, modernization, analytics, or whatever challenge your team is trying to solve. The best ideas usually start with someone saying, "Can I get your opinion on something?"

Credit scores are a lot like a résumé. They tell you where someone has been but they don't necessarily tell you what's happening today.

A consumer can have an excellent credit score and still be juggling higher housing costs, rising insurance premiums, childcare, healthcare expenses, and a grocery bill that somehow requires its own line of credit. Historical data still has value but it just shouldn't be the only voice in the room.

How should your collections agency handle this? Combine traditional credit information with broader affordability insights, behavioral data, and predictive analytics to understand what consumers can realistically do today.

Credit scores have had a pretty impressive career. For decades, they've been treated like they could predict just about everything. But let's put that theory to the test.

Take two people with the exact same 740 credit score. One lives in Manhattan. The other lives in rural Kansas. Same score. Completely different reality.

One may be paying sky-high rent, higher insurance premiums, and healthcare costs that seem to grow every year. The other may have considerably more room in the monthly budget, even with the same income.

That's the challenge facing collections today. A credit score can tell you where someone has been financially. It doesn't always tell you where they are right now. The better question has become: What can this consumer realistically afford?

That's why agencies are looking beyond traditional scoring models and using consumer affordability assessments to build smarter engagement strategies, more sustainable payment plans, and better long-term outcomes.

We'll be honest.

Part of the team is looking forward to visiting Manchester. The rest of us are mostly curious whether conference coffee tastes any different with a British accent. (We're not getting our hopes up.)

Jokes aside, we're excited to attend the UK Credit & Collections Conference on September 10. There's nothing better than spending the day with people who enjoy talking about data strategy, technology, analytics, and the future of collections as much as we do.

If you'll be there, come say hello. We'd love to swap ideas, share a few stories, and have a conversation that's almost guaranteed to be better than the coffee.

See you in Manchester!

Every collections agency has an office legend. They’re the person everyone calls before making a decision. Somehow, they always know the answer.

They’re incredibly valuable. But if your operation depends on one person’s memory to figure out what’s true, you’ve got a people problem disguised as a technology problem.

A strong system of record gives everyone the same answer, whether your resident expert is at their desk, on vacation, or wisely ignoring their phone for the weekend. That means less time chasing down conflicting information and more time focusing on clients, consumers, and performance.

Our latest blog explores why trusted data has become one of the biggest competitive advantages in collections.

Learn why a system of record is essential for collections, improving data accuracy, compliance, reporting, and decisions.

Consumers have become experts at avoiding phone calls. We’ll let one ring twice, send it straight to voicemail, and then spend the next twenty minutes watching someone restore a rusty wrench or power wash a driveway. Humans are funny like that.

The reality is that consumer expectations have changed. People want to handle things when it’s convenient for them, whether that’s during a lunch break, after the kids are asleep, or at 11:30 on a Tuesday night.

That’s why we’re spotlighting our newest TEC Solutions Member Divinity Software Software.

With secure consumer portals, online payments, flexible payment plans, and digital engagement tools, Divinity helps agencies meet consumers where they already are.

Autocorrect has an incredible amount of confidence. It doesn't ask if you're sure or hesitate. It just changes one word and suddenly you're rereading a text thinking, "Well...that's definitely not what I meant to send."

Technology has a way of reminding us that bad information can travel just as quickly as good information. That's an important lesson as AI becomes a bigger part of the collections industry. Artificial intelligence doesn't stop to question the data it's given. If the information is incomplete, outdated, or inconsistent, AI simply moves forward with confidence.

Before your company invests in another AI tool, take a closer look at the data behind it. Ask questions like: Where does this information come from? Who owns it? How is it validated? Can every department trust it?

At TEC, we're big believers in AI. We also know that the organizations seeing the biggest returns are investing in the data, governance, and system architecture that allow AI to make smarter decisions from day one. Great AI deserves great data.

Here's a question worth asking during your next revenue cycle meeting:
How much do you really know about your patients' ability to pay?

Eligibility data answers one question. Affordability answers another entirely.

As patient financial responsibility continues to grow, healthcare organizations are relying more heavily on analytics and predictive insights to understand payment behavior before accounts become collection challenges.

Our newest blog explores why patient affordability has become one of the most important conversations happening in healthcare today.

Insured patient medical debt is changing and challenging how healthcare providers approach affordability and collections.

Every organization has that spreadsheet. You know the one. It's survived software upgrades, leadership changes, office moves, and at least a dozen meetings where someone confidently declared, "We'll be replacing this next quarter."
Against all odds, it's still here.

The spreadsheet itself usually isn't the problem. It's simply filling the gaps left behind by disconnected systems. One spreadsheet becomes two. Two become five. Before long, people are spending more time tracking information than using it.

Whether you're managing collections, healthcare revenue cycle operations, or financial services, disconnected data has a way of turning simple questions into surprisingly complicated scavenger hunts.

That's exactly the kind of challenge HealthCareTEC helps healthcare organizations solve every day. Learn more: tecsg.com/healthcaretec

We've reached the point where your refrigerator can send you a notification that you're out of milk. Meanwhile, some collections agencies are still manually reconciling reports between multiple systems every Friday afternoon.

Technology has changed dramatically. Has your operation changed with it?

Identify every manual process your team repeats every week, and then ask a simple question: "If we were building this operation from scratch today, would we design it this way?” That question has started more successful modernization conversations than any software demo ever could.
