Call 811 before you dig!

811 is the national call-before-you-dig phone number. Anyone who plans to dig should call 811 a few business days before digging to request that the approximate location of buried utilities be marked with paint or flags so that you don’t unintentionally dig into an underground utility line.

Hitting a buried line while digging can disrupt services, cost money to repair, or cause serious injury or death. Always contact 811, wait the required time, and ensure that all utilities have responded to your request before putting a shovel in the ground.

Last week, BTES joined Avoca Elementary and Fairmount Elementary for their Egg Drop Challenges.

Our crews helped by dropping the students' creations from one of our bucket trucks as they put their designs to the test!

It was a fun week filled with creativity, excitement, and hands-on learning.

Employee Highlight: Sando Boima

Sando serves as a Utility Service Technician at BTES, where his responsibilities include reading meters and performing maintenance on fiber and water heater systems. He takes pride in helping customers and enjoys the opportunity to learn something new every day.

Originally from Africa, Sando recalls being fascinated and curious about electricity from a young age. He attended Science Hill High School and went on to earn his Associate’s Degree in Electrical Technologies from Northeast State.
Outside of work, Sando enjoys sports, especially soccer, and spending time with friends.
