After a Long Quiet Period... We're Back!
First of all, I would like to apologize for my long silence.
It may have seemed that Alter Ego Appearance had gone quiet, but the opposite was true. The past months have been some of the most productive since this journey began. Countless hours were spent designing, machining, assembling, testing, and solving problems that no one will ever see—but every one of them has brought this project one step closer to reality.
Today I am excited to share the first rendering of the nearly completed body and, for the very first time, officially reveal its name.
Arbiter Equilibrium Instrument
Three words.
Each chosen with purpose.
Arbiter
An arbiter is the final authority.
This instrument is being created to become the ultimate reference for the calibration of virtually any analog tape recording device. It measures, analyzes, compares, and guides every adjustment with laboratory precision, helping every machine perform at its absolute best.
Equilibrium
Perfect balance.
Not only between electronics and mechanics, but between the original source and what is ultimately preserved on magnetic tape.
This is made possible by a completely new technology I call Input Matching Preemphasis (IMP).
Traditional calibration can only compensate for what the recorder itself allows. Every adjustment eventually reaches its limit.
That is where IMP begins.
The Arbiter Equilibrium Instrument learns the unique recording characteristics of each individual recorder and intelligently shapes the incoming audio before it reaches the recording electronics. Instead of forcing the recorder to adapt, the source signal itself is gently adapted to the recorder.
Even machines that have drifted with age, require recalibration, or are still waiting for restoration can produce recordings significantly closer to the original source.
A perfectly calibrated recorder becomes exceptional.
An aging recorder becomes better than it has any right to be.
Every recorder moves one step closer to becoming a true Master Recorder.
Instrument
Not simply a device.
An instrument is built for precision.
Every circuit, every measurement, every algorithm, and every mechanical component has one purpose—to pursue the highest possible accuracy while remaining intuitive enough for enthusiasts and professionals alike.
Beyond Calibration
The Arbiter Equilibrium Instrument is much more than a precision calibration system.
It is also designed to celebrate analog music itself.
Whether the source is a reel-to-reel recorder, cassette deck, turntable, FM tuner, or virtually any analog audio source, the Instrument transforms sound into a living visual experience through beautiful real-time analysis and visualization.
Every recording has a story.
Every waveform has a signature.
As music plays, the Arbiter Equilibrium Instrument reveals what has always been hidden—turning sound into motion and making the invisible visible.
And that is only the beginning.
The Instrument is also being developed to recognize music already recorded on tape, automatically identifying the recording and displaying available information as playback begins.
Imagine placing a reel on the machine...
Pressing PLAY...
..and before the first chorus arrives, the Instrument already knows what you're listening to.
Because every great recording deserves to be recognized.
Planned Features

The Arbiter Equilibrium Instrument doesn't simply measure analog music... it understands it.
This is only the beginning.
Many challenges still lie ahead, but the foundation is finally taking shape.
Thank you for your patience, your encouragement, and for believing in Alter Ego Appearance.
The journey continues...
Because preserving analog sound deserves instruments as extraordinary as the music they help create.
