New updates. Showing off the final (for now) state of the gates. I compare both designs and discuss the pros and cons as well as demonstrate them in action with actual film running on Kinograph.

So where are we? We are getting close. Steps remaining:
- lighting: new LED and drivers, lightbox tweaks
- controls: k***s, switches, and serial communication
- workflow: camera calibration, capture settings, post-capture software
- QA: test, test, test
- send machines to pilot partners
- gather feedback from partners
- implement feedback
- documentation
- publish!
- open pre-orders for kits

My work trip got moved up so I didn’t get to write the full update I promised. Here are some pics to hold you over until next weekend.

1. Front side showing off a new minimal film path and other confusing shapes.

2. The white roller is a sample I had made of a PTR roller with the same anti-static properties as Kodak’s but cheaper.

3. Closeup of the tension sensor assembly. That metal bar thing is usually found in a bathroom scale for tubby humans.

4. Camera rig. Not loving the hardware and I got the lens totally wrong but it’s working for now.

5. What looks like Rita chaos is in fact only 96% chaos. I’ll be turning all that into a PCB and it will look 🤌

It’s not pretty but it works. Full update coming this weekend.

Check out this amazing DIY 35/16mm scanner project, the Robinoscan! It’s creator has been a big contributor to our forums and we are grateful for all he brings to our community. Keep rockin, Robin! Full video link in bio.
