Podcast rec of the week: “1.5 to Stay Alive" from Threshold Podcast. This episode traces the history of our challenge to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees -- a goal which has been shaped by decades of scientific study, political wrangling, and the tireless advocacy of people in the Global South.

After decades of scientific study and political wrangling the world has agreed—at least on paper—that 1.5C of heating must be the upper limit of our impact on the climate system. How could something that sounds so small matter so much?

I just received a blackmail email threatening to email all of my contacts that I'm hoping is spam. If not, and you receive graphic videos or other odd emails supposedly from me, they are not from me. Please do let me know if you receive anything weird so I can continue to address the issue, but fingers crossed with a password change we're done here!

Ladies Get Paid, an organization that helps women get paid in an effort to close the wage gap, was sued by men's rights groups because they felt excluded. (Talk about missing the point! Yeesh!) Help support Ladies Get Paid's crowdfundraiser so they can stay afloat and continue their good work!

My kickass, smart, kind friend Patrick Metzger just launched a new site/enews of optimistic environmental news, called The New Climate! I love this use of tech/media for good, instead of the usual news circus centered around fear and panic. Patrick says why this is so awesome best:

"My goal with The New Climate is to tell optimistic environmental stories of communities adapting in the face of climate change. In the chaos of the 24-hour news cycle, it’s easy to lose sight of how many incredible stories of hope emerge every single week. I want to bring those stories to light so that people will be inspired to take action and stay engaged as we face the biggest challenge our species has ever encountered.

Please share the site with anyone you think could use a weekly dose of inspiration! I’d love to hear what you think of this project (and to catch up!). Also, I’m always looking for new stories, so if you find links (or want to write a piece for the site!) let me know.

Wishing you love and peace for the days ahead. Together, we can tell a new story of hope."
