Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. This is a significant day for Black Americans, one that commemorates freedom and emphasizes education and achievement.

"Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free," reads the history posted on Juneteenth.com. "Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation—which had become official January 1, 1863."

Conga’s global offices are closed today so our teams can rest, recharge, and reflect, but we would be remiss in letting this day pass without recognizing and acknowledging this important part of Black history and culture.

We’re encouraging our teams to learn more about this holiday and its meaning, whether through participation in events commemorating the day, contributing to the community, or continuing their self-education of the prevalent racial injustices in America and how we can address it.
