Quick question for anyone in simulation or robotics.

When someone says their assets are sim-ready, what do they actually mean?

We have been asking this a lot lately and getting very different answers.

Most common answer: the 3D mesh loads in Isaac Sim.
Better answer: physics properties are defined.
What it should mean: validated against real-world behavior under actual deployment conditions.

The gap between the first answer and the third one is where most sim-to-real failures live.

Something we keep seeing in production robotics.

A robot hits 95% grasp success in the lab. Then 40% in the field. Same hardware. Same policy.

The problem is not the gripper. The problem is that the simulation trained it on a world that does not match the real one. Material properties, contact dynamics, variable lighting, sensor quirks, the details that look minor until they compound.

NVIDIA just dropped a major update on how it’s pushing robotics research forward. They’re releasing new open-source tools, simulation libraries, and AI models that are meant to make building, testing, and teaching robots faster and more realistic.

Think of it this way, robotics has been crawling forward for decades, often slowed by the huge gap between what works in a lab and what works in the messy real world. This announcement is NVIDIA’s attempt to shrink that gap with better brains, better practice spaces, and better training routines for robots.
