Mojave Audio

Mojave Audio "The most musical mics in the game" -Mix Mag. Built by legends. Trusted by A-List produces & engineers. What makes Mojave different?

A Mojave microphone’s journey begins and ends in Burbank, CA. Custom-wound transformers and NOS (new old stock) tubes are shipped offshore and mated to capsules and bodies, according to David Royer’s’ design specifications, at a highly respected factory that David has worked with for over 15 years. All Mojave microphones are constructed with respect to David’s unprecedented research and attention

to electronic design and quality. After assembly, they are shipped back to Burbank for extensive QC inspections. Prior to packaging, every mic is burned in for 24 hours and personally listened to by David. Very few companies (and none in Mojave’s price range) invest so much in the audio components. The high quality custom-wound transformers alone cost more than many import mics. The NOS tubes are military spec. The FET’s are top quality and the resisters are custom made. At Mojave it’s a given that no sacrifices are made in the critical signal path electronics. This hybrid of domestic and overseas manufacturing allows us to make superb microphones that are affordable without compromise. David Royer is one of an elite group of microphone designers who know that music and sound are inseparable from electronic design. Everything David designs comes from his deep, lifelong love of music. David is also known for his ribbon microphone designs with Royer Labs, and won a Technical Grammy in 2013.

“Some BTS photos of us recording our new album in a barn in Verde Valley, AZ with a collection of analog and digital gear we’ve put together over the years. We’re using two MA-301fets as stereo overheads in a Glyn Johns arrangement and I truly can’t believe the sound. I found them naturally dark and very responsive to the toms, and just a small boost on the high-end. I can’t believe the clarity and sparkle coming out of the cymbals. And no harshness whatsoever. It’s THE mic we’ve been looking for.”

The MA-D mic series is on the road with top touring acts this summer, and we’re honored to be featured in the latest edition of Front of House Magazine Online. For decades, Mojave mics have been a mainstay in the best recording studios and Dusty Wakeman, working with David Royer, brought that same pedigree to the live concert world.

Dusty puts it this way: “Live sound has come a long way since 1965, when the Beatles performed through a stadium’s announcer PA at Shea Stadium. Venue sound systems and front-of-house rigs have caught up to studio quality, and the industry’s old reliance on vocal mics engineered to compensate for weaker PAs, with built-in presence peaks to cut through, has started to look outdated. Mojave’s bet is that today’s systems deserve a mic that doesn’t need to compensate for anything, and that’s why we built the MA-D. It’s really satisfying to hear an artist sound their best, both in the studio and on the stage. When they’re happy, we’re happy.”

Guitar Center's flagship Hollywood store stocks a lot of gear, and the MA-50 is the mic they chose for their Music Lessons department.

Built around David Royer's elegant transformerless FET circuit design, it catches every transient with speed and precision with zero harshness. The result is a workhorse that gives you clear, natural tone, session after session✨

Who’s on the road this summer with the MA-D?

Robbie Williams. NIKI. Hunter Hayes. DevilDriver. The Doohickeys. Mack Keane. Jessy Fury. Libra. And one very enthusiastic Mojave president who also moonlights as a bass player (iykyk).

Different genres and stages, same mic. Because a great vocal mic doesn’t care if you’re headlining sold-out stadiums or the club down the street, it just wants you to sound like yourself.

Soaking up some patio sun after another great studio session.

Summer’s slow. Your signal chain doesn’t have to be. Add the MA-1000 to your collection while the days are long and the decisions are easy.

Before she was selling out arenas NIKI was uploading songs to YouTube from her bedroom in Jakarta.

Today, those songs have carried her halfway around the world. On her Buzz World Tour, she’s bringing them home. Show after show, NIKI delivers her heartfelt songs through the MA-D Dynamic, trusted for the clarity, warmth, and consistency that the stage demands ✨

Live Sound Month Spotlight: Joe Harling, Front of House mix engineer, Robbie Williams 2026 BritPop World Tour

“Live vocal microphones are by their very nature a compromise, usually favouring extreme rejection over tonality. The MA-D tips the scales in the other direction, favouring a much flatter and less fatiguing tonality. It is so nice to not have a big sharp presence peak at 5/6k, both for the vocal, but also for any off axis spill. I also find that the mid-range is much more open, and I’m no longer chasing low end caused by proximity effect around, which is especially noticeable when the artist talks between songs. This microphone deserves serious consideration” -

Joe Harling’s BritPop Tour Mic List:

*Mojave Audio MA-D Wireless Capsule:
Robbie Williams, Lead Vocals
(2) Female Background Vocalists
(1) “Roving Position” for Male Background Vocalists
(2) for Special Guest Vocalists

*Mojave Audio MA-D Wired Microphone:
(4 - 6) Male Instrumentalists/Background Vocalists Positions

Robbie Williams 2026 BritPop World Tour continues its run through Europe, Latin America, Australia & New Zealand

Joe Harling has been Robbie Williams’ FOH since 2022. He’s also mixed live sound for Lana Del Rey and Tears for Fears

Thank you Joe!

“I wanted to highlight this mic again; because, it was the first studio quality mic I owned. It helped me find my voice as a singer and producer/engineer. I used this mic exclusively on songs like Delta, Don’t Rush Me, and Between Your Arms.” - Tyler Edwards
