Kenwood TM-742A on the bench. Would not power on. Replaced multiple capacitors, repaired circuit traces damaged from corrosion, replaced the battery, installed cool white LED's, adjusted the frequency and checked TX/RX on all 3 band units. Working well now.

Kenwood TM-742A on the bench. Just repaired the backlights, replaced the backup battery and tested the power output. Back in business. Contrary to what others may say about this radio it is possible to install the band units in any order, have the same band for all 3, and no having the 2 meter module installed is not required. What is required is fully resetting the radio when changing the order or installing a new band unit. Also the power cable can be moved from a 2 meter band unit to any of the other units to power the radio.
