With businesses continuing to migrate to remote/hybrid work environments, it is crucial to make sure your business data is secure. Research has found that data breaches in 2021 rose by 27% and the average cost in damages per incident was $4.24 million. Small bad habits can easily become a bigger problem by making your business vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Some of the more common bad security habits include: inadequate password practices, lack of updating/upkeep of security policy, outdated technology, untrained employees, and undervaluing cybersecurity.

Read the article below to learn more about how your business can work to break these habits and prevent malicious attacks:

Mainstream media has created the narrative that small-medium sized businesses are free from cyber-attacks and that bigger corporations are the main target for “cybercriminals.” The reality is that small-medium sized businesses are more vulnerable and easier targets for cyber-attacks and are therefore more commonly attacked than most believe.

Implementing cybersecurity into their operations can seem like a daunting task for many business owners, but it does not have to be a complicated process. By focusing on blocking just the basic and obvious entry points this is effective enough to prevent being attacked by cybercriminals.

You do not have to go at it alone. Collaborate with a managed service provider who can provide solutions that fit your IT needs and protect your businesses against cyberattacks.

Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) shows that ransomware has risen by 13% this year. Many data breaches are caused by some sort of “human element.” This human element can include stolen credentials, email phishing, or weak passwords. Training for employees in preventing these ransomware threats has been shown to be ineffective and time consuming. Spectrum MSP (Managed Service Provider) can partner with your business to keep your data safe and help prevent ransomware.

Jen Easterly was appointed Monday as director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). She brings experience from the private sector, in working with Morgan Stanley in the past. Her comments indicate promptness in the need to combat ransomware attacks, especially amid the recent attacks and the looming threat that remains. She believes cybersecurity is a must:

"'“Given that cybersecurity touches every aspect of our government and our lives – from our laptops to the Internet of Things – the U.S. desperately needs centralized leadership to coordinate the federal response to improve our defenses.”'

The consistent trend is government and business leaders voicing the severity of ransomware attacks. It is time for all businesses to ACT and ensure their critical infrastructure is in safe hands.
