πŸ₯΅ Your phone's still ringing about AC. That's exactly why it's time to think about heat.

Not because the weather's turning. Because Google is slow. πŸ‘‡

πŸ“… Average first freeze around here is November 22. That's about 12 weeks out.

Sounds like plenty of time. It isn't.

⏳ Here's what most owners don't know about how this works.

When you put a new page on your website, Google doesn't just start sending you calls. It has to find it, index it, and then decide over weeks or months whether it trusts you enough to show it to people.

Early traction is usually a few months out. Real traffic takes longer.

So if you publish your heating page the week of the first cold snap, you're not late. You're a full season late. That page won't earn its keep until next winter.

πŸ”§ What that looks like right now, by trade:

HVAC: your site probably has five pages about AC and one line about heating. Every furnace question a homeowner asks in November is getting answered by somebody else's website right now.

Plumbing: pipe insulation, outdoor faucet covers, water heaters that quit in the first cold week. That content should be going up now, not the morning your phone melts down.

Electrical: generators, space heater circuits, holiday lighting loads. Same story.

❄️ And we all remember February 2021. Nearly six straight days below freezing.

Nobody's saying that happens again. But the owners who did well that week weren't the ones who scrambled. They were the ones a homeowner could already find.

βœ…The honest takeaway: your marketing has to run one season ahead of your truck. Always. By the time you feel the demand, the window to capture it already closed.

🚨 An AI found a way to take over a million WordPress sites. It took about two hours.

That's the news this week and it's worth two minutes πŸ‘‡

🎨 This one isn't a plugin. It's the theme.

Avada is one of the best-selling WordPress themes ever made. Over a million sites. That's not a bolt-on add-on, that's the actual design of the website.

Researchers found six separate flaws that chain together and let an attacker take over the server. No password. Nobody has to click anything. 9.8 out of 10 severity.

And because Avada requires a companion plugin to even run, every site using it is exposed. Their words: any site with Avada installed is exploitable.

πŸ€– Here's the part that should get your attention.

The security company that found it used an AI agent. It located the six-step chain and wrote working attack code in about two hours.

Good guys this time. They reported it, the developer patched it, the system worked the way it's supposed to.

But that capability isn't exclusive to the good guys. The clock on "how long before somebody finds the hole in your site" just got a lot shorter.

βš™οΈ This is one of the reasons we build on Wix.

Not because Wix can't be hacked. Nothing can't be. But there's no stack of themes and plugins from a dozen different developers that you're personally on the hook for patching. Wix handles that on the backend.

Fewer doors, and somebody else's job to lock them.

πŸ“‹ If you're on WordPress, here's your homework: find out who updates your site and when they last did it. If the answer is "I don't know" or "the guy who built it in 2021," that's your answer.

🧠 Keywords and backlinks still matter. If that's all your SEO guy talks about, that's a problem.

Not saying he's a scammer. Saying the work changed and a lot of people didn't change with it.

Here's what actually decides whether you show up now πŸ‘‡

πŸ“ Being the closest one doesn't win like it used to.

A study of more than 4,400 businesses found physical distance had almost no correlation with whether a business got named in Google's AI answer. Basically zero.

The map pack still runs on proximity. The AI answer doesn't. It's reading reviews, mentions, and directories, then deciding who it trusts enough to name out loud.

⭐ Which means your reputation became your ranking.

And not just your review count. Whether your profile is filled out. Whether your name, address, and phone match everywhere online. Whether anybody anywhere is talking about you besides your own website.

πŸ“š Then there's the part almost nobody's doing.

People ask questions long before they type "plumber near me." What does this cost. How long does it take. Do I need a permit for that.

If your site answers those honestly, two things happen. You're who the AI quotes, and you're who they already trust by the time they call.

If it doesn't, somebody else answers for you. Usually a national site that's never set foot in your town.

⚠️ And the old shortcuts actively hurt now.

Stuffing keywords into your Google Business Profile name, the "Best HVAC Repair 24 Hour Emergency" thing, is against Google's rules and gets profiles suspended. That used to be a cheap trick. Now it's a way to lose your listing entirely.

βœ… Honest version: SEO stopped being a line item and turned into the whole picture of how your business exists online. Reviews, profile, content, consistency, reputation. It all feeds the same machine.

That's more work. But it's work a real local business can win, because you already have what the AI is hunting for. Real customers, real jobs, real proof. The template farms don't.

🎼 Wix just announced something worth paying attention to, and we're watching this one closely.

It's called Symphony. Plain English version: a set of AI assistants that handle the day-to-day busywork of running a business, and they actually learn your business instead of you re-explaining it every single time.

Here's the part that stood out to us πŸ‘‡

β˜• It does a morning meeting.

Every day it tells you what got done, what needs your attention, and what it noticed. Not another dashboard you have to go dig through. A summary, handed to you.

There's a lead agent that watches what's happening across the business and hands work off to the right helper. Anything important still comes back to you for approval before it goes out.

πŸ”§ Now the honest part.

This was announced today. Wix is aiming it at consultants, restaurants, and retailers first, not the trades. No pricing yet, and no details on what it does for a plumbing or HVAC shop specifically.

So we're not going to hype it. We're going to test it.

But the direction is right. Every trades owner we work with has the same problem: a lead comes in, the follow-up doesn't happen, and it's not because nobody cared. It's because there's one of you and you were under a sink.

Something quietly handling that in the background is worth a look.

βš™οΈ We build on Wix, so we'll get our hands on this and report back straight. If it's good for our clients we'll say so. If it's not ready, we'll say that too.

πŸ“° Our article was published this week on MSN, Yahoo Finance, Business Insider, AP, Benzinga, StreetInsider, and several others!

Feels good to see our name on that list πŸ™‚

But here's why we actually care about it, and it's probably not what you'd guess πŸ‘‡

πŸ” When somebody's deciding whether to hire you, they look you up. And what they find is usually just your own website telling them how great you are.

Coverage on outlets people already recognize changes that. Now there's something out there confirming your business is real, doing real work, that isn't coming from you.

πŸ€– And this matters more every month, because AI tools are doing the same thing.

When somebody asks ChatGPT or Google's AI for a recommendation, those systems cross-reference what the rest of the internet says about a business before they'll name it. The more places you show up, the more confident they are you're legit.

βœ… Now the honest part: this is one piece of a bigger picture.

It works alongside a real website, a dialed-in Google profile, and steady reviews. It's not a replacement for any of those, and anybody telling you a press release alone will fill your calendar is stretching it.

But as one layer of the stack, it does real work. We use it for our own business, and we run it for clients too.

08/25/2026

🚨 Starting October 1, Google will charge you for calls you don't answer.

Not a typo. If someone calls from your Local Services Ad during your posted business hours and stays on the line more than 20 seconds, that's a billable lead. Even if nobody picked up.

20 seconds is about four rings. πŸ‘‡

⏱️ There's a second piece most people are going to miss.

If that first call doesn't qualify, any follow-up call between you and that customer can still get billed. So it's not "one missed call, one charge." The meter keeps running on that person.

πŸ”§ Here's why this hits the trades hardest.

You're in a crawlspace. You're on a roof. You're driving with a torch in your hand. Missing calls isn't sloppiness, it's the job. And starting October 1 every one of those costs you money instead of just costing you the job.

βœ… Two things to do before October 1:

1️⃣ Go check your business hours in your LSA account. This only applies during the hours you have posted. If yours say 24/7 and nobody's answering at 11pm, you're about to pay for every one of those.

2️⃣ Figure out who's covering the phone when you can't. Answering service, office help, family, whatever fits. The math just changed on what that's worth.

πŸ“ž One more thing worth knowing: if your phone system makes people press a number to reach a department, the 20-second clock doesn't start until they press it. No press, no charge.

That's a real lever. But be careful, because a menu also makes some folks hang up who would've booked. Don't dodge a lead fee by losing the lead.

Google says the point is rewarding businesses that answer fast. Fair enough. But it lands like a tax on the one-truck operator who's actually doing the work.

Honest question πŸ‘‡ how many calls do you figure you miss in a normal day? Most owners guess low, then get surprised when they count.

I was building websites before I was old enough to drive.

They were not good. Tables for layout, a hit counter nobody was hitting, background music you couldn't turn off, and at least one MySpace page I would like scrubbed from the internet permanently, lol.

But that early obsession turned into a career. Enterprise systems, digital infrastructure, and eventually a few businesses of my own that I built and sold. Through all of it, the work I kept coming back to was the same. Help a business get found, get chosen, and get paid.

Somewhere along the way I noticed a pattern I could not unsee. Good owners, people running honest businesses, signing marketing contracts they could not read. Paying invoices they could not question. Getting reports that told them nothing.

The shop got paid either way. The owner carried all the risk.

I knew this work well enough to know it did not have to run that way.

So I built PxlPerfect to be the company I kept wishing those owners had found first. Plain terms. Published pricing. Month to month, because the work should earn the renewal. And my own name on it, because when I tell you your phone is going to ring, I want you to know exactly who made that promise.

I want to put food on both our tables. When your phone rings, mine does too.

⚠️ Google pushed out a new spam update this week. Rolling out globally over the next few days.

Most of you will never feel it. But there's one version of this that hits home service businesses hard, and it's usually not their fault πŸ‘‡

🚩 If a previous SEO company built you a pile of city pages, go look at them right now.

You know the ones. "Plumber in Rockwall." "Plumber in Royse City." "Plumber in Wylie." Forty of them. Same paragraphs on every page with the city name swapped out.

That's called a doorway page, and it's been against Google's spam policies for years. Plenty of cheap SEO shops still sell it because it's fast and it looks like work on an invoice.

πŸ“„ Same goes for mass AI-written pages. If somebody generated fifty blog posts for your site in a weekend and nobody read them before they went live, that's the other pattern Google's watching.

⏳ And here's the part that stings: Google says recovery from a spam hit can take months, even after you fix it. This isn't a bad week. It's a bad quarter.

βœ… What's NOT in this one: link spam is not targeted this round, and neither is the site reputation abuse policy. Different systems, different updates.

So if you're a real business with a real website and honest pages about the work you actually do, this update is not about you. Sleep fine.

But if you inherited a website from a vendor you never fully trusted, this is a good week to open it up and read what's actually on it. A lot of owners have no idea what's published under their own domain.

Honest question πŸ‘‡ do you know how many pages your website has? Most owners I ask have no idea.

08/19/2026

πŸ‘€ Google is testing ads inside AI Mode answers. And they look exactly like Local Services Ads.

Someone caught it on a lawyer search this week. AI writes the answer, and right underneath sits a "Sponsored" block of businesses with photos, star ratings, hours, and service areas. Same format you know from the top of Google.

It's a limited test right now. Not confirmed, not everywhere, and not spotted in home services yet. But here's why it matters πŸ‘‡

🎯 Up to now, showing up in AI answers was earned only. No way to buy in. If the AI didn't know you, you didn't exist.

If this sticks, that changes. You'd be able to pay your way into the answer.

⚠️ And the flip side: every ad slot is space that used to go to somebody who earned it. More ads in AI Mode means fewer organic spots for businesses already scratching to get mentioned.

Here's the part most people are going to miss πŸ‘‡

Local Services Ads pull straight from your Google Business Profile. Your reviews, your verification, your hours, your service area.

Which means if this rolls out, your GBP isn't just what gets you in the map pack anymore. It's what qualifies you to buy into the AI answer at all. Weak profile, weak reviews, no verification, and money won't fix it.

πŸ“Œ Nothing to do today. This is a test and it may never ship.

But if you've been putting off cleaning up your Google profile and chasing reviews, this is one more reason it's the highest-value hour you can spend on your marketing.

08/12/2026

⚠️ Google is moving Local Services Ads into Google Ads this month. Plumbing, HVAC, electrical, lawn care, pest control, and roofing are in the first wave.

Most coverage says "export your reports." True. But there are five changes that hit your money and your ad, and nobody's explaining them πŸ‘‡

πŸ’³ 1. Your weekly budget becomes a daily budget. Don't panic at the spikes.

Google divides your weekly budget by 7 to set a daily average. Your monthly total is capped at that daily number times 30.4.

So $700/week becomes $100/day, capped at about $3,040/month. That's basically what you were already spending. The total didn't change.

What changed is the rhythm. Busy days can spend more than $100. If you check your card every week, you will see a spike and think something broke. It didn't.

🚫 2. Your max cost-per-lead cap is going away.

Manual bidding is retired. If you've been capping what you'll pay per lead, that control disappears on your transition day. Know your real number before it does.

πŸ”€ 3. Running two trades in one campaign? They're getting blended.

Plumbing and HVAC under one campaign with different targets get merged into a single average. Your cheap leads subsidize your expensive ones and you lose sight of which is which.

Fix is separate campaigns per trade, set up in the old LSA system before you migrate. You can't build new ones in Google Ads yet.

πŸ… 4. BBB callouts are gone.

If your ad showed a Better Business Bureau callout, that's deprecated. Go into your campaign assets and pick at least 6 other callouts (hours, specialties, payment methods) or you lose that trust space in your ad and get nothing back for it.

πŸ“‰ 5. Expect a dip for about two weeks.

Google says to allow up to two weeks for performance to stabilize. If your phone goes quiet in week one, that's the migration, not your business.

⚠️ And don't touch your Google Business Profile during migration week. Your GBP now feeds your ads directly, and a name or address change can pause them 24 to 48 hours for reverification.

βœ… Good news: your leads, call recordings, and message history all come with you. Google Verified badge transfers. No re-uploading insurance or licenses. Still pay per lead, not per click. Still Search and Maps only, so ignore the scary "Performance Max" name.

πŸ“‹ Do today: export your LSA reports. After migration that data is gone and you'll have nothing to compare against.
