Question: Who told you "not right now" three months ago, and who are they talking to today?

"Not right now" is not a no. It's a future yes with a timer on it.

Most owners hear "not right now," file it as a loss, and move on.

Then the prospect's timing changes three months later and they hire whoever happens to be in front of them.

Be the one in front of them.

A simple follow-up sequence, a few helpful touches over the weeks, means when the timer goes off, you're the obvious call.

That stack of cards from your last networking event. Where is it right now?

Be honest.

Drawer? Console of your car? Bottom of a bag?

Every card in that pile is a relationship you already started and then paused.

I can set up your CRM so a photo of the card creates the contact, applies the tag, and starts the follow-up.

Message me the word CARDS and I'll show you exactly how it works.

The most powerful move at a networking event isn't pitching. I

t's connecting.

Say you meet a realtor and a mortgage lender in the same room.

They work the same home sales.

Introduce them to each other and you've made both their jobs easier, and it cost you nothing.

Now you're not another person asking for referrals.

You're the connector. And connectors are the people everyone wants to send business to.

Question: At your last networking event, did you leave as someone people met, or someone people owe?

Why Stale Reviews Sink Rankings After Ninety Days

Givers gain.

It's not a slogan, it's a system.

Dr. Ivan Misner built BNI, the world's largest networking organization, on that principle starting in 1985: help other people first, and it comes back many times over.

Here's what it looks like in practice.

Give value to a referral partner twice before you ever ask once.

Send them a client.

Share their post.

Make an introduction.

By the time you ask, it doesn't feel like asking.

It feels like reciprocity.

Four questions that will tell you more about your business than your P&L this week:

Where do your contacts live?

Where do your deals stand?

When did you last give a referral partner something?

What happens to a new lead if you get busy?

If any of those made you wince, my free Business Systems Scorecard will show you exactly which one to fix first.

Comment SCORECARD and I'll send it over.

I was listening to someone today talk about re-engagement campaign of cold leads. Some entrepreneurs think in systems! If you want me audit your systems in your business, send me a message. WHY?

A system is just a decision you make once so you never have to make it again.

It's the difference between "I respond to leads whenever I see them" and "every lead gets a text back within five minutes, automatically, every single time."

If you are the system.

Everything runs through your brain and your phone.
That works until you get busy, and busy is exactly when leads slip through the cracks. The cruel part is that the more successful you get, the more you drop. Growth actually breaks a business that runs on memory.

Speed wins jobs.
When someone searches for a plumber or a cabinet builder or a cleaning service, they usually contact two or three businesses. The first one to respond gets the conversation. If your "system" is calling back after dinner, you're losing work to whoever answered first, even if you're better at the actual work.

Consistency builds trust before you ever show up.
When every customer gets the same smooth experience, quick reply, easy scheduling, a reminder before the appointment, a follow-up asking for a review, you look like a professional operation. That reputation compounds. Reviews stack up, Google shows you to more people, more calls come in.

You get your life back.
This is the one owners feel first. When follow-up, scheduling, and reminders happen without you touching them, you stop working nights just to keep up with admin. The business runs even when you're on a job site or at your kid's game.

So if you're wondering where to start, here's the question I'd ask you: what's the one thing you do over and over that makes you think "there has to be a better way"? That's your first system. Not all of them. Just that one.

What does that look like in your business right now?

AI caught a typo on a business card that I never would have seen.

I was photographing a stack of networking cards into my CRM, and Claude flagged that one card's tagline had a misspelled word.

Printed.

On every copy that person hands out.

Proofread your card.

Then have someone else proofread it. Then read it backwards. Then have AI proofread it.

You only get one first impression, and it's often printed on 3.5 by 2 inches of paper.
