Recently, one of my best-performing posts was an airplane meme.

Not the posts I strategically wrote about the latest website trends, or the one where I carefully explained social media strategy.

A meme of airplanes. With a joke about forgetting email attachments.

And while I’d like to pretend there was a grand plan behind it, there wasn’t. It was simply something I thought was funny, and I decided to share it on a Friday as we headed into the weekend.

And yet, I think the reaction does tell more of a story than simply being funny.

When I scroll my own feed, the posts I actually stop for aren't always the most polished or trying to sell something. They're the ones I can relate to or the ones that simply put a smile on my face.

Those posts aren't trying to get anything from me, but by simply being yourself, you are growing the relationship and trust of your audience.

That's why when I started growing my online presence, I gave myself permission to just be me.

To post fun memes.
To share things about my faith.
To talk about whatever I'm finding fun that week.

Now, sure, the business stuff is important too. But it was just never going to be the whole story.

So post the meme, vacation photo, or things that you’re passionate about outside work.

It might get more of a reaction than you think.

One of the best-performing emails I've ever sent was an apology.

I had accidentally shared the correct date for an event with the wrong day of the week. Not exactly my proudest marketing moment. 😅

As soon as I realized it, I sent a follow-up email with the corrected information, and added a little humor about my calendar apparently taking the day off.

People appreciated the honesty. Some even replied to say how they’ve done the exact same thing.

If you're anything like me, it's easy to beat yourself up over mistakes. I'm usually my own harshest critic.

But I've been learning to give myself a little more grace. None of us were designed to be perfect. We all make mistakes, and most of the time, they're not nearly as big a deal as we convince ourselves they are.

What matters is how we respond.

So if you ever hit "Send" a little too soon, don't panic. Own it. Fix it. Learn from it.

Then move on.

Your website is often the first impression people have of your business.

Someone hears about you from a friend. They meet you at an event. They see one of your posts on social media.

And then they do what we all do: they Google you.

When they land on your website, does it tell the story you want it to tell? Or does it feel like a snapshot of your business from a few years ago?

You don't need a complete overhaul or all the bells and whistles. But you do want a site that feels current, reflects your brand, and makes it easy for people to take the next step.

Sometimes that's as simple as updating your messaging, refreshing your branding, cleaning up the navigation, or making your calls to action clearer.

Small changes can make a big difference.

If your website no longer feels like you, it might be time for a refresh, and I'd be happy to help.

One of my favorite parts of this work is seeing a project come full circle.

It usually starts with a conversation about someone's business, their goals, and what they want their website to accomplish. Then comes the design, the content, the SEO, and all the little details that often go unnoticed but make a big difference.

Hearing that those efforts not only resulted in a website Michael is proud of but also helped his business become more visible on Google makes it even more rewarding.

Thank you for trusting me to build not one, but two websites for your businesses. I truly appreciate the opportunity and your kind words.

Think doing your own social media is a budget win?

Running your own posts might seem like a money-saver, but it often takes more than you realize. Here’s what’s really at stake:

🕒 Hours lost: Writing captions, editing photos, and scheduling posts eat up time you could spend with clients, or simply relaxing.

💭 Mental drain: Chasing trends and brainstorming ideas can wipe you out, leaving little energy for the work you love.

📉 Missed connections: Inconsistent posts and weak strategies mean fewer eyes on your business and missed chances to grow.

🎯 Polish gap: Social media isn’t everyone’s strength, and that’s okay. Pro-level content grabs attention and builds trust.

Unless it's something you truly enjoy and have the time for, DIY social media can often cost way more in lost time and missed opportunities than partnering with a pro who makes it seamless.

Last month, a critical security vulnerability was discovered in UpdraftPlus, one of the most popular WordPress backup plugins.

The issue was serious enough that, if left unpatched, it could allow someone to access a website without a username or password.

The thing about security vulnerabilities is that they don't sit around waiting for people to catch up. As soon as they're made public, attackers start looking for websites that haven't been updated yet.

That's exactly why, for clients hosted with us, we don't wait either.

By the time most site owners even heard about this one, it was already handled.

And this isn't just about one plugin. Vulnerabilities can pop up in plugins, themes, or WordPress itself. Keeping a website secure isn't a one-time task. It's ongoing.

If you're not sure who's keeping an eye on your website, it might be worth having that conversation.
