New laws going into effect in Mississippi today, July 1‼️

SB 2369 - Child Support: Withholds casino/gaming winnings for people with child support arrearages.

HB 1662 - Child Custody: Establishes joint custody as the default starting point for divorcing parents, meaning courts would automatically start every custody case at a 50-50 split.

HB 525 - Mandatory Minimums: New mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines for every person convicted of s*xual battery.

HB 565 - “Jill’s Law”: Requires state-regulated insurance plans, including private plans, Medicaid, and the State and School Employees Health Insurance Plan, to cover biomarker testing when it is supported by clinical evidence.

HB 1935 - Teacher Pay Raise: Gives teachers a $2,000 pay raise. Special education teachers would get an additional $2,000, and Assistant teachers, school psychologists, and occupational therapists would also get a $2,000 raise.

HB 4073 - PERS Reform: Reduced the requirement for full retirement for new hires (Tier 5) from 35 years back to 30 years.

SB 2588 - The SHIELD Act: Requires local officials to verify the citizenship of people registering to vote.

SB 2710 - Teens Charged As Adults: Teenagers who commit crimes with guns will now automatically be charged as adults.
