It's time to Dissect the Design again. Let's look at MissQuito. This one is a bit more straightforward and obvious than some of the other examples.

The concept behind MissQuito is a vision of making an empowering, impactful change in the mosquito control industry, elevating all-women leaders to bring the very best mosquito control services right to your home.

Using a bolder script font and adopting a color palate that is more feminine while remaining strong, combined with intentionally misspelling mosquito, the marque offers a clear nod to the female leadership. The Ss transform into the wings and body of the mosquito, while the proboscis extends into the tail of the outlined Q. The Q provides a visual barrier, containing the mosquito.

He was one of the smallest players to play the game, standing 5 feet 4½ inches and weighing 140 pounds, resulting in his nickname. "Wee Willie" Keeler is a Baseball Hall of Famer and appeared as number 75 on The Sporting News' list of the "100 Greatest Baseball Players". When asked about his incredible batting ability, he simply said "Keep your eye clear, and hit 'em where they ain't".

How does this apply to branding? You don't have to be the biggest. You just have to "Hit 'em where they ain't". Don't do what your competitors are doing. Do what they AREN'T doing. Don't compete in the same space. Find the empty space and own it.

Project Digital had the pleasure of designing this interactive kiosk for the First Ladies National Historic Site. There are two kiosks in total. One which has a permanent home at the National First Ladies Library & Museum in Canton and a 2nd unit that has been traveling as a temporary exhibit at libraries and museums around Ohio.

The purpose of the kiosk is to educate the viewer about the 7 First Ladies from Ohio. The presentation features photos and videos of artifacts owned by the Ohio First Ladies as well as Untold Stories of interest about each.

What was the thought behind this design for Atlas Conflict Resolution? Let’s Dissect the Design.

Atlas Conflict Resolution is a law practice specializing in mediation services. My first thought was something visually representing either a globe or the Greek Titan, Atlas. Atlas the Titan seemed counterintuitive. There was no real resolution in his story. Just punishment. Whereas a globe represents boundaries. Boundaries (and the crossing of them) can certainly cause conflict. But also opens the door to resolution.

Next thought… how can I create a globe and bring the initials of the business, ACR, into it? With a very rudimentary use of singular axes for the globe, the suggestion of the initials started to take shape. The inversion of the lower right quadrant helped to bring the initials into sight as well as offering the opportunity to add a conflicting element into the design. The soothing teal offset by a more energized orange and we introduce a non-conforming element, visually achieving conflict.

As a seasoned designer nearing 34 years experience, there’s little that excites me more professionally than to apply subtle psychology to a brand marque. Intentional and meaningful design.
