Don't Succumb to the Pressure! 🛑
We want to remind everyone to carefully review Microsoft Authenticator approval requests before pressing “Approve.” Cybercriminals are increasingly using “MFA fatigue” attacks, where they repeatedly send sign-in requests hoping someone eventually presses approve without checking.
Please follow these steps every time you receive a Microsoft Authenticator prompt:
🛑 STOP AND READ THE REQUEST
Before pressing approve, look carefully at:
The location being shown
The application being accessed
The number matching request (if prompted)
✔️ CHECK THE LOCATION
Microsoft Authenticator will often show the city/state or country where the sign-in attempt originated.
Examples:
Expected: New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, or nearby areas when you are working locally
Suspicious: Foreign countries, unfamiliar states, or locations you have never visited
❗ IMPORTANT:
The location may not always be exact due to VPNs, cellular providers, or Microsoft routing. Nearby locations are usually normal.
If you were not actively logging into Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, VPN, or another work application moments before the prompt appeared, press “Deny.”
Report Suspicious Prompts Immediately!
If you receive unexpected approval requests:
Press “Deny”
Contact Green Technology Services immediately
Let us know what location was shown
🚫 NEVER APPROVE MULTIPLE REPEATED REQUESTS
Repeated prompts can indicate someone knows your password and is attempting to gain access to your account. Do not press approve to make the notifications stop. That's exactly what the attacker wants you to do!
Thank you for helping keep company accounts secure!
