60-Second Security Tip: Don’t Let Your Inbox Make Decisions for You

Attackers know that panic destroys common sense. That’s why the most dangerous emails always create a false sense of urgency—demanding immediate payment, a quick gift card purchase for a boss, or an urgent wire transfer. When you act instantly out of fear or eagerness to help, you play right into an attacker's hands.

The Quick Fix:

1. Adopt the "5-Second Pause": Never act immediately on an urgent or financial request via email.

2. Verify via a second channel: If your boss or a vendor emails asking for a money transfer or sensitive data, call them or message them on Slack/Teams using a trusted contact number to confirm.

3. Make it a team rule: "We never approve financial changes by email alone."

Learn why phishing sense of urgency bypasses rational thinking and how to train teams to pause, verify, and stop clicking malicious links.

AntiguaRecon: 3 cyber risks Antigua businesses need to watch, and how to handle them:

- Smarter Phishing: Attackers are using realistic lures to steal login details. They can be stopped by turning on multi-factor authentication (MFA) and running regular phishing simulations with your team.

- SME Ransomware: Smaller businesses are prime targets because they often have fewer defenses. Protect your operations with tested offline backups, quick software patching, and network segmentation.

- Tightening Compliance: Data regulations are getting stricter every day. To avoid fines and lost security controls should be documented, and regular audits scheduled.

We use OSINT and hands-on simulations to turn complex global threats into practical, everyday defenses for Antigua businesses.

60-Second Security Tip: If You Get Hacked, Do This First

Realizing you’ve clicked a bad link or lost access to an account can send anyone into a panic, but moving calmly and systematically is the secret to minimizing damage. The first few minutes matter most: you need to lock the attacker out immediately before they can spread to other systems or accounts.

The Quick Fix:

1. Notify IT immediately: If it’s a work device, don't hide it, alert your IT or security team right away so they can contain the threat. Let them work on your. Don't delete anything since you might hurt your IT department's ability to analyze and isolate the threat.

2. Change your password & revoke sessions: From a clean device, change the account password and look for a "Sign out of all devices/sessions" option in your settings.

3, Lock down finances: If banking or credit card details were exposed, don't even take a break to go to the bathroom... Call your financial institution immediately to freeze the affected accounts.

Having your accounts hacked can be frightening, especially if fraudsters get hold of your bank details or private data. Here is what you need to do if you think you have been hacked.

60-Second Security Tip: The "Too Good to Be True" Trap

Modern scams aren't just poorly written emails from distant princes anymore, they are convincing, and often tailored to your daily life. Hackers use fake invoices, unexpected refund notifications, and high-paying remote job offers to catch you off guard. What makes them so effective is that they mimic brands you already trust and manufacture excitement or curiosity to bypass your critical thinking.

The Quick Fix:

1. Never click links in unexpected emails about refunds, invoices, or account updates.

2. Never open texts from unknown people. Validate, and if you can't, leave the text alone.

3. Look for warning signs: generic greetings, mismatched sender email addresses, or pressure to act quickly.

Go directly to the vendor’s official website or app yourself to check if an alert or invoice is legitimate.

Learn how to identify a phishing scam, designed to steal money via fake emails.

60-Second Security Tip: Turn This On Today, The #1 Security Setting You’re Ignoring

We often skip Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) because we think entering a code takes too much time. In reality, it adds just a few seconds to your login but stops over most of automated cyberattacks. Even if a hacker steals your password in a data breach, they can’t access your account without that second piece of proof, like an authenticator app on your phone.

(We know this because we've dealt with customers who lost money because they weren't using MFA to protect their critical accounts.)

The Quick Fix:

Open the security settings on your primary email, banking, and work accounts today.
Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) or Two-Step Verification.
Choose an authenticator app (like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator) over SMS text codes for the strongest protection.
