I know 2 things about opportunity:
1. It shows up when you least expect it.
2. It does not come back a second time.

Like when you find yourself randomly in an elevator with Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, wearing a branded t-shirt, and decide to awkwardly say hi.

If/when you find yourself in this scenario (and honestly, who hasn't?), your elevator pitch better be ready.

All jokes aside, it comes in handy more often than you might think.

Follow for more tips and weird videos.

Next, I'll tell you about the time I played cricket with Wayne Gretzky.

Welp, this is embarassing...

Looks like I closed the doors of Data Career Academy too quickly.

If you got a rejection message from me... it was an error.

We do still have a few seats available.

And because the mistake was mine,

I'll open up a few more.

We start Monday, 2/9.

How did I break into data analytics?

Funny story...

πŸ€” Did I master a coding language, BI platform, and SQL? πŸ€”

Nope. But I recommend you do that.

πŸ€” Did I earn a data science degree, pricey boot camp or pile of certs? πŸ€”

No. But that does work for some people.

πŸ€” Did I put together a killer portfolio? πŸ€”

Hell, naw. I still haven't. But I recommend you do that.

πŸ€” I know. It must have been my amazing resume!πŸ€”

Not a chance. It was barely adequate. But you should absolutely have a good resume if you want to compete.

The truth is, every job offer I've had in the 2+ years I've been in data analytics has been through my network.

And I built my network like an ABSOLUTE MADMAN. πŸ€ͺ

I still do.

No avenue should be neglected. Reach out to peers and influencers on multiple platforms.

Go to their events.
Ask them questions.
Show interest.
Help each other out.
Highlight excellence.
Be a good person.

All of these are networking tactics.

It's still a tough job market.

But the biggest difference I see between the have and the have-nots?

Networking. Get started today.

No Experience?

Say this instead:

Do you call yourself an "entry-level" Data Analyst?

That's why you don't have a job.

That positioning destroys your data analyst job prospects before you even get an interview.

When you emphasize being "entry-level," you're telling hiring managers you don't intend to stay very long. No employer wants to hire someone who's already looking ahead to their next job.

Try this: Position yourself as someone who will excel in their specific role, not someone passing through on a career trajectory.

Instead of highlighting your beginner status, focus on how you'll add value to the company in that particular position. Show commitment to mastering the role they're hiring for, even though everyone understands career growth happens naturally.

Your objective should communicate:
"I'm going to be valuable to this company in this job"
rather than
"I'm using this as a stepping stone."

How you define yourself matters.

What kind of analyst are you?

Every guarantee you buy in your career is designed to extract maximum value from you while delivering minimum results. You're not buying security, you're buying mediocrity.

The uncomfortable truth about career development: every certificate program, bootcamp guarantee, and risk-free path you choose keeps you exactly where you are while creating the illusion of progress.

Those online courses promising job-ready skills? They're selling you completion certainty, not employment certainty. You can collect a dozen certificates and still struggle to land interviews. The guaranteed outcome you paid for was never the outcome you needed.

Real career breakthroughs happen through uncertain activities with asymmetric upside. Building relationships with people in target companies. Analyzing actual data for real organizations. Managing genuine projects and documenting results. None guarantee success, but they create conditions where extraordinary opportunities become poss…

Okay, I admit it. I don't hate SQL.

I do like to make fun of SQL stans...

The cult of SQL gets a bit out of hand. I've had a great career without ever being very good at it. It is possible to do.

But hey, if you're going to send me a book, I will read it.

So here we go, Squirrel, my old adversary...

πŸ’ What if that "lazy" coworker isn't actually lazy?

Maybe they're fighting a battle you can't see. πŸ’‘

I was at the gym grinding through a brutal workout, barely holding on. Someone asked if I was injured. I was annoyed at firstβ€”then I realized, they didn’t know my backstory.

We judge people on snapshots. That grumpy cashier? That struggling colleague? They might be going through something tough.

So here’s a challenge: Instead of judging, check in.
Be curious, not critical. A simple β€œHey, you good?” could mean everything. ❀️

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Isaiah 40:31

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run; and not be weary.
They shall walk, and not faint. Psalm 73

Needed this today, !

Thanks so much for the inspiration πŸ™
