VOLUNTEER RADIO SYSTEM:
WHAT IS IT? ------------------
I've had a lot of inquiries about VRS, so I wanted to take some time to answer some of the frequently asked questions.
First and foremost, to start, VRS will consist of two P25 digital only conventional repeaters. One VHF, and the other 800MHz. Once operational, both will be co-located at a mountain top tower location at about 3000 feet, providing coverage for most of Bradley County, parts of Northeast Hamilton County, and about 60% estimated of McMinn County.
WHAT IS VRS FOR? ------------------
VRS is intended for these types of users:
- two-way radio enthusiasts
- families, groups, and individuals seeking alternative communication methods
- natural and man-made disaster communications
- military simulation enthusiasts ("mil-sim")
- preparedness groups
- outdoor enthusiasts and hunters
.. but any responsible user is welcome to subscribe!
In addition, my goal for this system is to bring like minded people together. Nowadays, the Internet has alienated a lot of people through online conflicts driven by a lack of real connection and being behind a screen, all motivated by unscrupulous corporate interests. Short of in person contact, talking to someone in real time is valuable connection, so I hope VRS can help people make new friends and have fun, and provide a reliable communications solution to those that need or want it.
Users can elect to subscribe to their own private talkgroup (encryption available), or simply utilize one of the several public channels to chat with other users.
HOW DOES VRS WORK? ------------------
Simply put, VRS is a subscription two-way radio service. Rates and information are on our website at 423tech.com/vrs
Users must live or visit the VRS coverage area in order to use the system, and will also be subject to user agreement outlining terms, user behavior expectations, rules of operation, and limitations.
You can bring your own radio, or you can lease radios from us that are pre-programmed for your private and the public talkgroups.
Lots more to come, so if this interests you, please subscribe to email notifications about VRS on our website at the link above or below.
Stay tuned, and thank you for your support!
