Have you shopped for a laptop or a computer recently? Do you wonder why prices have increased so much in just the past six months? Here’s your answer….

AI is consuming the world’s computer chips. Companies building AI systems (data centers for things like ChatGPT, image generators, etc.) are buying massive amounts of memory and GPUs. Memory chips like DRAM and NAND are critical parts of every computer. AI servers use huge quantities of these chips.

Because of that:
• Memory manufacturers are prioritizing AI hardware instead of consumer PCs because it’s more profitable. 
• This has caused shortages for regular computers, pushing prices up.

Analysts expect DRAM + SSD prices to increase about 130% by the end of 2026, which could raise PC prices around 17% compared with 2025.
