Your iPhone isn’t bulletproof.
Your MFA isn’t foolproof.
And your “free” Wi-Fi might cost you everything.
Let’s talk about the habits that actually keep your data safe.
🛡 Use multiple layers of protection
MFA helps, but hackers can still intercept your login tokens if you’re not careful. That’s why I recommend passphrases, password vaults, and a VPN for sensitive activity.
📱 Treat your mobile device like a workstation
Many people assume iPhones are inherently safe. Update your phone regularly. Install antivirus protection. Sophos has a free option that works great.
☕ Be smarter than Starbucks
If you’re on public Wi-Fi without a VPN, your keystrokes, logins, and files are up for grabs. Hackers spoof networks that look legit. You won’t even know you joined the wrong one.
📶 Segment your network at home
Got a smart TV, a smart fridge, or a “smart” lightbulb? Keep IoT devices off your primary network. Ask your ISP to set up a guest or IoT network. It’s free and it works.
🎯 These tips came up during my interview on the Smarter Online Safety podcast. We covered mobile threats, shadow IT, honeypots, and what questions you should ask any IT provider before you sign a contract.
